2022 WE MADE IT!

Welcome back to school! I hope your Winter Break was relaxing and fun! I thoroughly enjoyed time with family and friends, and now I am ready to jump back in to the NEW YEAR with vigor and anticipation.

We will be reviewing classroom and school rules/procedures. We will also be changing our behavior system. Each child was sorted into a Hogwarts house before we departed on break. Students will earn points for their houses by the work they accomplish during the week. I will still have fun friday going, but this is another fun way for kids to work as a team. Each week an MVP of each house will be named as well, but ONLY the TOTAL amount per house, NOT individual amounts earned. Basically, 1 point per assignment, and they will earn a few extra this week for how improved they did on mid year tests. But again, all private amount except your student should be able to show you those scores on their iReady and their data sheets.

I will share the information with parents during our February Parent Teacher Conferences and make goals to help continue to learn and grow. I am very proud of our students, they have worked hard, and are really taking responsibility with their own learning. I can guide and teach to the best of my ability, but if a student doesn’t want to learn, I can NEVER force it. I feel that as a whole and on a daily basis, this group of students DO want to do their BEST and they do WANT to strive for MASTERY and maintaining their standards.

Thank you for the great example and guidance you set at home. Here we go AGAIN… xoxox

December 17 – FRIDAY – “Polar Express” PJ Party

Dear Parents and Students –

We are having a Polar Express Pj party on Friday, December 17. It is a FREE dress down day. Your child can wear whatever -stay appropriate- and one snuggly to cuddle up and watch Polar Express. Please fill out the food permission slip form at the bottom of this post. It is one of my presents to my students for working so hard till the end of the year!

Thursday, December 16 @ 1:30 pm we will be doing our Secret Santa exchange. All students who chose to participate drew names last week. If you have any questions, please email me, I know who everyone has, and all who opted out. Please, have all secret Santa gifts in our room by Wednesday, December 15 (just to make sure all is good and everyone is accounted for).

This year has gone by too fast. The kids have worked so hard. Are doing their best to master their standards and also working on being a warrior kid! Next month, January – I will have tutoring on Tuesday & Thursday again. At that time, if your child ever wants to stay after on either of those days for ANY math help, they can. I only ask if they stay, they are willing to work, not mess around. I will ask students to leave who are not there to use the time wisely. Remember, this is starting in January, first week back. This Thursday we will be cancelling tutoring, being so close to the holiday.

Have a great day,

Mrs. Young

Halloween Food Permission Slip

Dear Parents –

We will be celebrating Halloween on Friday, October 29 this year. Students are allowed to wear costumes and walk in the parade. Parents are welcome to watch and enjoy the parade as well. We will be doing a small party in my classroom after. I have the treat selected and in the permission slip your child can choose what they want and then parent signature will be required for consumption. If you choose to stay home that day, that is completely fine. We will not be doing any standard work that day.

November is also upon us and with that, Parent Teacher Conferences. This year we have changed out schedule a little. Wednesday, November 3 and Thursday, November 4 are both short days – excused at 1:00 pm, with Friday, November 5 (NO SCHOOL) for students – Teacher Work Day. I will be starting my conferences at 2 pm and ending about 7:30 pm. Please sign up for a time that will fit your schedule. I only have one slot available for each child, so PLEASE, do your best to NOT have to reschedule or cancel. I plan on IN person visits in my classroom. BUT if anyone is uncomfortable or needs to make arrangements through a zoom or google meet, Email me privately to schedule that accommodation.

I am very excited to see you and your child to let them share how hard they have been working so far this year, make goals for the next quarter, and brag about them! Thank you for all the support we have received this year. Fundraisers, donations, and trusting me with your child’s education…. I have an amazing class. Thank you!~

Weekly “What are we learning?” Update: Monday, Oct. 18 – Friday, Oct. 22

Hello Parents and Students –

This week we are going on our first field trip of the year to “Green Acres Corn Maze”! Don’t forget to contribute your donations at the Q1 office and if you are a chaperone, please pay the extra $5 for your ticket. Thank you again for all your support. I am very excited and can’t wait to have fun learning and enjoying fall festivities with you and our GREAT class! The buses will be at the school at 9:30 am, we will depart and be at Green Acres by 10 am to start their 3 rotations. Then we will leave by 11:30 to be back at school by Noon, to have recess and then normal lunch.

Chaperones can ride the bus, or follow behind in their own cars. But all children need to be on the bus, unless checked out for the day. If you are a chaperone who chooses to follow, please first meet in my classroom to receive your students’ names in your group. Also, for students to see their chaperone.

Learning for this week!

ELA – Compare/Contrast story elements: characters, setting, plot

Phonics – Plurals

Strategy – Make predictions

Math – Lesson 6 / Lesson 8 – Understand decimal place value, and read and write decimals. – I like to do these two lesson together. They correlate really well.

POWER Math Standards –

* NBT.5 – multiplying multi digit numbers in standard algorithm

* NBT.6 – dividing with a multi digit divisor – standard way

(Important information: No tutoring on Tuesdays until AFTER the holidays.) Tutoring will only be on THURSDAYS @ 3 – 3:30 by email invite so students don’t come during a standard they already mastered.

Stay tuned, I will have PTC sign up by the end of this week! Also, more information about Halloween celebrations for our classroom!
