Christmas around the World!

I am excited to be teaching our 2nd Grade class all about Christmas Traditions! This is an exciting unit that aligns with our previous mapping unit. So far we have learned about Italy and the witch La Bafana. We have also learned about Hollands Christmas traditions. For most children in Holland, the most important day during the Christmas Celebrations is 5th December, when Sinterklaas (St. Nicholas) brings them their presents! On December, 5th children leave clogs or shoes out to be filled with presents. They also believe that if they leave some hay and carrots in their shoes for Sinterklaas’s horse, they will be left some sweets. My students made some special clogs and left some carrots in it, when they returned to school the next day a shiny new pencil and eraser was waiting for them in their shoe! The students have a special passport that gets a stamp each time we visit a new place! This is a fun and exciting time of year and I love teaching your little ones all about different people’s Christmas Traditions from around the world.
