Christmas in Holland

In Holland the Christmas celebration starts before December 5. Sinter Klaas come sailing into the harbor of many dutch cities. He brings his white horse and his companion “Black Pete”. There is a parade and the children shout as the procession winds around the streets.

The children get ready by putting their wooden shoes outside their door. They put carrots and hay in them for Sinter Klaas’ horse. The next morning the children find surprises Sinter Klaas has left for them.

We made our own shoes and put a carrot on our desks to see if we might get a little visitor. Look what we found when we came into class today!
