Dear Parents,

Due to the change in policy for Parent/Teacher conferences at Quest Academy we will not be having our traditional Parent teacher Conferences in Oct and March. Those I feel I most need to meet with at this time will receive an invitation to schedule an appointment for the upcoming September 25th conference. If you do not receive an invitation to make an appointment, but would still like to meet with me, please feel free to let me know via email. If there are openings, I will do my best to accommodate your request.

 

Raz Kids Passwords

I have password protected the students’ Raz Kids accounts. Their password is their same login they use to login to the computers in the classroom. There initials and “super-secret number” (They know what this is).

I have had a problem with some students logging on to each others accounts just to see what reading level they were on, and some kids have felt bad about it. 

I have also added the “insensitives”, when they read and take quizzes, the earn points. Then they can spend them on Raz Rockets, which they really love. I encourage them to read atleast two stories and take the quizzes before they can play with their Raz Rocket Points. 
razFor those of you who have IPads and Smart phones, there is an Appfor Raz Kids! I have it on my phone and my daughter uses it all the time. If you are waiting in a Drs. office, or just need to kill some time, they can read wherever you are! I love it for my own kids! Try it out!

Field Trip Announcement!

downloadWe get to go on a field trip!! Mark your calendars for Friday, September 26. We are going to Black Island Farms in Syracuse. Parent chaperones will be needed, so if you are interested please start making arrangements now. We are asking that no younger siblings attend this field trip. I will have a permission slip available soon on google docs for you to sign. I just wanted to give you a heads up about the date! We are very excited!!

Classroom Volunteers

School is getting off to a great start! I would like to start in-class parent Volunteers the week of Labor Day, Sept 2. If you are on my list of volunteers, from back to school night, I will start emailing you the time that I need you and what I will have you doing in the class. Morning volunteers will help with reading with kids, and afternoon volunteers will help with math fluency pass off (flash cards). If you did not have a chance to sign up and would like to, please come see me or email me. 

Please try and refrain from bringing younger siblings, it can be very distracting for our class. If this is not possible, I would be more than happy to send things home for you to do to try and help us out!

Also, if there is anyone that would like to help be a Class captain (Room Mom) to help plan our parties, we are in need. I have one volunteer already, but it would help to have two. Please let me know if you can help with this!

I appreciate all of your willingness to be here and help us have a successful year here in second grade!

Parent Volunteers!

I am looking for volunteers to help me in the classroom next week! I will begin reading with each of my students in order to assess where they are. This takes time on my part and I need parents to help me with all my other kiddos in guiding them through planned activities. I will plan something for them to do, and I need you to be with them for guidance and direction. I need you from 9:30-10:30, or 1:40-2:30. Please let me know if you can help at these times. Scholastic Book Order!

I am excited to utilize the Scholastic Book Ordering program in our classroom this year. I have the link posted on the sidebar of our class blog. You can click on it and it will take you directly to the website. Ordering online is fast and easy, you just need to sign in and enter our class activation code, which is: L6KDF. Ordering books for your children through this program gives our class points towards free books that your child will utilize in the classroom throughout the year. This Months ordering due date is August 28

Welcome to our class blog! I am excited to get to know all my new 2nd graders! This blog will play an important role in your child’s education this year. This is where you will find class information on homework, word study and other learning we are doing in our class.
