Math Fluency

We have been working extra hard on our math fluency speed! How many problems can you get in one minute!? Students, at this point, should be getting between 25-35 addition math facts in one minute! Print some sheets off below and see where your child is placing. If they are scoring under 25 in one minute, they NEED MORE PRACTICE. Spend a little extra time each week helping them master this skill.

Their goal is 40 addition facts in one minute!! Some have passed that off and are on to addition…yah!!!  Keep working hard! ( I even have one that has moved onto multiplication…double wah hoo!!!)

Valentines Day

Students may bring Valentines for classmates (26), I ask that only nonfood items be attached to those Valentines, if anything.  Individual Valentine treats brought by students are not permitted due to our current food policy and food allergies (we have many).

We will have a party with no food. So no need to be watching for a permission slip. We will have a lot of fun on this day!!

Read-a-thon January 31

Bright green Read-a-thon papers have been sent home!

These sponsor sheets (without money)  need to be returned to our class by January 27th at the latest.  If you bring the sponsor sheet back in time, you will receive a coupon to collect a charm.  The coupon will be sent home, along with your sponsor sheet, on 1/31.  Students will need to collect money and return the sponsor sheet and money to the school on February 5th.

The student who collects the most money will win a Kindle Fire!  Our goal is to raise $7,000, which is only $10 of pledges per student.

On Read-A-Thon Day, students can read a classroom book or bring their own books.  It is also a dress-down day,. Please no pillows or blankets!

End of the Quarter

I was sad that I was unable to be at school today with my kiddos! I have a severe case of laryngitis and I am going on a talking strike for the weekend! Hopefully resting my voice with help it come back!! Being a teacher with no voice is quite difficult!

The day home gave me some good time to enter a lot of your kids’ testing data into SIS.I was also able to email about half of you information regarding your child’s reading progress. I am so proud of how hard they are all working! They are amazing!!

I have entered most of my students information. If your child’s data is not entered, it is because they have not finished their testing. Once it is complete, I will enter it. In SIS you will find your child’s most recent STAR and Dibels math scores. This is about where they should be with scores (benchmark), hopefully this helps you interpret what you are seeing a little better.

STAR Reading  2.5
STAR MATH      2.5
Dibels Math    scores are on a scale from 1-100, 50 is average

The end of the quarter is next Friday, Jan 17. Please check grades and make sure things look right. If you have any questions regarding what you see, please let me know!
