HAPPY NOVEMBER!! Time has flown by this year and we are now into the swing of things.  We are continuing to stretch our brains and find new ways to learn.  Thank you for sharing your children with me each day!  See you at Parent Teacher conference- signups are on Bloomz!

Math:
We will start lessons 9 and 10 this week.  First, we will use place value to multiply and then we will move onto understanding the meaning of division.

Reading:
In Unit 2 Week 4, our comprehension strategy is rereading to help us understand a text better.  The expository texts we are reading this week are “Whooping Cranes in Danger,” and “Kids to the Rescue!”.   While reading, we are going to be using details in the text to determine the author’s point of view.

Phonics:
Three Letter Blends: -spr, -str, -squ, -thr

Vocabulary:
-success     -caretakers     -population     -recognized     -relatives     -resources     -survived     -threatened
In class, we learn about these vocabulary words in connection to ourselves. If you notice your child using any of these words in context, this would be a great opportunity to celebrate their efforts!

Each month students are required to memorize at least one poem.  Below are the month’s poems.  We only read through these in class once, so they need to be practiced at home.  Students can pass off poems on Fridays whenever they are ready to recite them.

Stevens Halloween Party permission slip!

HI ALL!!!!
We are having our Halloween Party on Thursday, October 31st from 10am-11am.  This is right after the costume parade and will happen back in our room.  I have a Bloomz message thread and a signup list to help us make this happen.  Our treats will be cookies, donuts, pretzels, cheese sticks and assorted candy.  Will have water to drink.  
Attached is a link to the permission slip for enjoying the yummy treat!  Please click the link and fill out the form so we know what your child is allowed to eat!  Please email or Bloomz me privately with any questions.  I am still in need of volunteers to bring and run games!  I also need a coordinator to be in charge of games and treats being done (setup/cleanup).  Setup needs to be before 10am and clean will be after 11am.  Thanks, Mrs. Stevens.  cstevens@questac.org

Apple witch dressing w/ volunteers!

Hi Rams and families!

I am in need of 4 volunteers to help dress apple witches on friday at 10am.  Please respond to the Bloomz sign-up or email me at cstevens@questac.org to help.  
Witch dress are due this Wednesday and I only have 10 dresses turned in.  Please email me today or tomorrow(tuesday) if you can’t make one for your student, so I can find someone to help! 
Thank you so much to all those who have gotten yours turned in!  
FYI: the dress needs to be sewn with a hole for the head, the hat needs to look like a witch hat(or some version) and the hands only need to be cut out (no sewing).

We will be dressing our apple witches on Friday @ 10:00.  I have created a signup on Bloomz for anyone who would like to volunteer to help us construct Apple Witches.  **  Sewn dresses (with holes for head and arms), cut out gloves (do not sew/glue), and assembled hats-need to be in by Wednesday, October 23rd.

Apple Witch Dress/Robe Patterns
Patterns will go home on Monday for the Apple Witch dresses/robes, hats and hands. Use this pattern to cut out a front and a back for the dress/robe. This can be done using any type of fabric for the dress, and felt for the hands and hat. New fabric does NOT have to be purchased. In the past students have used shirts that have been outgrown, pillow cases, and leftover scraps. If you need someone to sew your witch dress for you, please send the fabric- already cut -out, to school no later than October 15th so that our volunteers have time to sew them and send them back! Please send the sewn dress, hands, and constructed hat to school by October 24th if you are sewing it yourself.

While reading, we are going to be using details in the text to determine the theme of the story.
