I hope everyone had a a relaxing long weekend. Below is what we are working on for the week.

MATH – The next few weeks we will continue working on FRACTIONS. This week we will be working with equivalent fractions.  There is an activity attached to the family letter below. This is a good activity to do with your child if you want go give them some extra practice. Please continue to work on multiplication facts with your child at home. In class students will be showing what they know by passing off timed tests.

ELA: This week we will be working on Unit 5 Week 1 in our Wonders program. Below is an outline of what we are learning in class. Our emphasis will be on identifying claims in texts and finding evidence to support the claims.

Valentine’s Day Reminders

  • The Valentines Treat Permission Form  needs to be completed to receive any Valentines with anything edible.
  • There are 26 students in our class. If your student brings Valentines to pass out make sure there are enough for everyone. 
  • Please do NOT have Valentines labeled with the names of who they are for. 
  • Students may choose to bring a decorated Valentines box or something similar.

I am very happy that I was able to meet with all of you this past week! I am excited to keep watching the students grow and learn each week.

The time has come…PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES ARE THIS WEEK!! Your student is preparing a presentation for YOU! Please sign up if you haven’t already. Please also make sure your student attends the conference with you!

Valentine’s Day – On Wednesday, February 14th, we will be having a Valentine’s Day party. We will have the opportunity to pass out and receive Valentines. We have 26 students in our class. If you child chooses to participate, please make sure they bring enough Valentines for every student. Please do not have your child write who the cards are to, just who they are from. It is very time consuming when passing them out. Students can decorate a Valentine’s box, or something similar, to bring in on that day to collect their Valentines. Please note, students will only be allowed to receive valentines containing food items if the permission form is completed.

Aquarium Field Trip This Week!

  • Make sure your child is at school on time (once the buses arrive we will NOT be able to wait for late students)
  • Make sure your child is dressed for the weather (we will be eating lunch outside)
  • All students need to be in their normal uniform attire
  • Make sure your child has a backpack (they will be carrying their own lunch, coat, etc.)
  • If you stated your student is going to have home lunch make sure it is in their backpack
  • If you selected school lunch for you child, it has been ordered and will be given to them the morning of the field trip
  • Do NOT send your child with any money (they will not be allowed to purchase anything)
  • If you have not already please pay the $5 student donation for the field trip (paid to the office)
  • If you are volunteering, all needed information will be shared at the start of this week!

MATH – This week we will be finishing working on one-step multiplication and division word problems. Then we will move on to two-step word problems using the four operations! Please make sure that you are practicing the multiplication facts with your child at home.

Valentine’s Day Party

On February 14th, we will be having a small party and handing out valentines. If your student would like to bring valentines, please make sure that they bring at least 26 and a decorated box or bag to collect valentines in. Please have your student write who the valentine is from, but they can leave who it is to blank to make handing out the valentines easier.

This year administration will allow candy to be placed in Valentine’s Day cards. However, students will not be allowed to eat them in class and we still need permission, so please fill out this form –permission form.

ELA: This week we will be working on Unit 3 Week 5 in our Wonders program. Below is an outline of what we are learning in class. Our emphasis will be on summarizing non fiction texts to be able to retell in chronological order.

Please note that devices that can be used to make or receive calls/texts are to be kept in backpacks, turned off during the day or muted in school mode for the day; this includes cell phones, watches, etc.

Designing the Yearbook Cover

December 10, 2023

The time has come for us to select a yearbook cover for our 2023-24 elementary yearbook. We will be holding a Yearbook Cover Contest to select two students whose artwork will be featured on the front and back cover of the yearbook. This year, students can choose to do artwork that is created digitally or hand-drawn. Each entry must be brought in on a white 8 ½ X 11” paper, and include the school name along with the student’s first and last name in one corner. We will be looking for entries that represent this years theme which is “BE GREAT!” 

Entries are due by Friday, January 5, at 8:30 am. 

List of digital art programs suitable for children: Adobe Fresco, Gimp, Krita, Artweaver Free, ArtRange, Sketchpad, Astropad Studio, Adobe Illustrator, Inkscape, Vectr, FireAlpaca, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Paint, Procreate, Tux Paint, Drawing for Children.

Week of December 4th

We only have 10 school days before Winter Break. For the next 10 days students will be working to earn an invitation to our Grinch Party. Each student will have a chance to earn 3 hearts and these hearts represent RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY & KINDNESS. After they have earned their hearts, they will get to add them to our Grinch in the hallway and join the fun on December 15th!
