Dear Parents,
We are going to continue with our 2 options for classroom supplies. Parents love it and found it to work out well for them. It simplifies the process beautifully!
Rather than listing all necessary supplies and asking you to search the world for the correct supplies, we thought it would make your life much easier to pay $25 to the office to cover the cost of supplies. I will then be purchasing these items in bulk. Feel free to bring in your payment to office on or before back to school night Wednesday, August 18th, 2020.

  • This is designed to be money-saving, since I will be able to purchase supplies in bulk, and I have carefully itemized the list and all costs involved.
  • The only three supplies that will not be covered by the $25 payment, and which you have to supply are:
  • Over-the-ear headphones in a plastic bag, labeled with student’s name (I STRONGLY recommend purchasing a good pair of headphones, for your student to use for several years.  Students become very frustrated with headphones that do not work well or do not block out sound.  Earbuds tend to tangle very easily and don’t block out sound well, which is frustrating for first-graders.  Please try to find the highest-quality, most tangle-free headphones possible. We use headphones multiple times throughout the day in the classroom. Think of it as an investment. You can spend a little more money and get a good set or a little money up front and end up replacing them often.  (Your student will also use them in future grades). ##
  • 1 standard-sized back pack.  Please do not purchase the smaller-sized backpacks, as your student will be frustrated at not being able to fit books and papers neatly inside.  Book bags tend to be difficult for students to carry, especially when carrying heavy items.  Please do not purchase backpacks on wheels – these are surprisingly difficult for your student to navigate while walking in a line down the hallways.
  • Water bottle labeled with child’s name.  Please be sure that the water bottle is easy for your child to open/close and refill.

In the event that you opt to buy the supplies on your own, the following are the supplies and guidelines I am asking for (Rest assured I have carefully priced all items and feel confident that you will be saving money by simply paying the the office for your student’s supplies.)

If it seems that I am being picky about certain items, it is only because I have witnessed the frustration of many, many first-graders while they struggle to use inadequate supplies, and I want the best experience possible for your student! THANK YOU for your help with this! :)

  • 2-4 pink erasers (such as Pink Pearl or Pink Pal brand). Please: no novelty, pencil-top, or odd-sized erasers: novelty erasers do not work as well and your first grader will become frustrated at trying to use them frequently. 2-4 Large pink erasers

  • 1 (12 count)

Dixon Ticonderoga My First Tri-Write Triangular #2 Pencils, Primary Size

These pencils are the best!!! The lead doesn’t break easily and erasers rarely smudge. The triangle shape is SO HELPFUL. Students maintain the correct pencil grip easily, which, is VERY important when writing. The best place to find these is on Amazon
Use these free images for your websites, art projects, reports, and ...
  • 2 Boxes 24 count crayola Crayons (These will fit inside the Large Travel Sized Soap Container)

Expo markers

  • 8 thin (fine tip) BLACK Expo brand markers. These can be difficult to find at the beginning of the school year because they are in very high demand.  If you are unable to find them at this time, wait a couple weeks and try again.  These are a VERY important supply  – probably one of the most important for your student. Please ONLY purchase black, fine tip: other colors do not erase well, and the thicker markers are too difficult for your student to use for printing.

Primary Journal

  • 2-Primary-Ruled Journal (Be sure to purchase “Primary,” since these provide the correct line height for beginning writers – these can be purchased at Walmart, Staples, Office Max, ShopKo, Target, as well as Amazon etc.). ##We will be using these for math, writing and language arts assignments.
  • 3 Containers of Clorox wipes

  • 1 Boxes of tissues

  • Over-the-ear (Preferred)  headphones in a plastic bag, labeled with student’s name I STRONGLY recommend purchasing a good pair of headphones, for your student to use for several years.  Students become very frustrated with headphones that do not work well or do not block out sound. Items that are NOT needed (please do NOT bring):
  • Scissors
  • Rulers
  • Calculators
  • Any other novelty school supplies, toys etc. that may be a distraction to your student.  If students are distracted by toys, etc., the item will be kept by the teacher until the end of the school year.  I want your child to be able to focus on loving learning! :)

THANK YOU!  🙂 If possible, please bring supplies on or before Back to School Night so that the supplies can be organized and ready for our first day of school. :)
