PIONEER ESSAY CONTEST!!
Reply
Parents and students,
Our class has been invited by the Ogden Chapter of the Sons of Utah Pioneers to participate in an essay contest. The contest is divided into three categories, 1) pioneers arriving before 1869, or the coming of the railroad, 2) pioneers arriving between 1869-1896 when Utah was granted statehood, and 3) those ancestors that settled in Utah after 1896 through today.
Also, instead of an ancestor, a student may choose to write about a trapper, explorer, mountain man or a Native American tribe that participated in the settling of the Utah Territory.
Each school participating will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner to submit to the contest committee. The school winners will win a cash award of:
• 1st Place- $25.00
• 2nd Place- $15.00
• 3rd Place- $10.00
A representative of the Sons of Utah Pioneers Essay Committee will collect the winning school essays. The committee will then choose Chapter winners of:
• 1st Place- $50.00 and an award plaque
• 2nd Place- $25.00 and a certificate
• 3rd Place- $15.00 and a certificate
The essay must have a cover page listing the essay’s title, the student’s name, their school, and their teacher’s name.
