Things We Are Working On
Parents,
I wanted to let you know of some things we have been mastering for Language Arts. Currently, we are working on mastering key details, and identifying the characters, setting, and events in a story. Many of your students are struggling with these and I would appreciate it if you could review them with your students. Whether it is asking them questions, or having them tell you what the story is about that you are reading at home. An idea would be to have students draw pictures of the characters and where the story takes place (setting) after you read a story. You can also read a story and have them color pictures of 4 key details of something that happened in the story. Anything you can do to help them better understand these concepts is appreciated! Thank you!
Also, for math we have been mastery, “I can use number partners to make 6 and 7.” Many students are struggling with this concept because they get confused on where the numbers can go. Many of them can do it if I’m sitting next to them, but lots struggled on the test today. If you could please review with them, I would appreciate it. Here is an example of what we worked on. Feel free to do a couple with your student with different numbers that make 6 and 7. On their test they had to find one of the smaller box numbers (so in this case, they had to find the number 5 because 1+5=6) Then, they had to go through and put the numbers 1 and 5 where they go in the number sentence. 6=1+5 and if we switch the numbers they can do 6=5+1. Hopefully this makes sense and you are able to do some examples at home. If your student can do the numbers for 6 and 7. Have them work on 8 and 9. The next couple lessons are building on each other and we continue to do bigger numbers.
