In Class

We are busy, busy, busy in class! Every day is a new letter (check out the perfect letter page for videos!), math concepts (equal to, less than, greater than, and shapes!), and perfection of our center rotation. Please take the time at home to work on handwriting and number/letter recognition. “Practice makes perfect!” is something that is said when the handwriting becomes frustrating.

The classroom now has an open door policy! You are always more than welcome to come by and help anytime that works for you. I LOVE having family in during centers (AM- 8:45-9:45, PM- 12:30-1:30).

Next MONDAY we will begin the Waterford reading program. This state funded program requires us to be in the computer lab 30 minutes each day. It is a phenomenal program that works with your Kinder at his/her reading level! I’m a big fan 🙂

Folders!

I love working with Mrs. Richins! She has some fabulous ideas! I will be stealing (borrowing?) her take-home folder system beginning tomorrow.

Please make sure your Kinder brings a backpack everyday. The folder will stay in the backpack and be used at the beginning of each class. This should keep everything organized!

Letter d

When practicing writing at home, please remember we are also working on the uppercase letter. We use the clock paper for lowercase letters (c,o,a,g,d). More to come next week! (Then there are line letters and my favorite – trampoline letters!)

Please remind your Kinder to always “start at the top.”
Many want to start their letters at the bottom!

More perfect letters

Today we worked on the letter g! We practiced this fantastic lowercase letter on our clock paper! Please take time at home to practice on the clock page and normal writing paper.

Practice makes perfect!!

Reading Centers

We have finally started reading centers! Already these amazing Kinders are quietly working together in small groups! I am so proud of them!

Centers

I would love more than anything to get family volunteers for these hour blocks.
AM centers – 8:45-9:45
PM centers – 12:30-1:30

Please leave a post if you are able to help. Let me know what day works best for you. It is best if you can commit to one day a week (I don’t want to burn anyone out!) You are more than welcome to stay for the entire class period.

Perfect Letters

We are focusing on the letters of the alphabet. Above you will notice a tab for “Perfect Letters.” This page will contain a video of how the students learn to write each letter. The paper we use in class is also provided. Please take the time to practice the correct way to write each letter at home. Thank you!

Today’s perfect letter: C

Sorting Colors

We had the best time sorting! Of course it is always more fun to sort m&ms! We sorted and counted them before decorating a sugar cookie shaped like a gingerbread man. Your Kinders (and their teacher!) LOVED the book The Gingerbread Man Loose in the School! Such a darling book!! Thank you to all who were able to donate supplies.

NOTICE: Please make sure you have signed the last page on the parent handbook. This lets me know if you would like your child’s photo on the blog. It also gives your child permission to use the computer labs and check out books from the library!

Homework

We will not assign homework the first two weeks of Kindergarten. I will write a post with all information the third week of school. Right now, please just love on your Kinder and talk with him/her about daily events. I love your little ones already and can’t wait to get started on academics!
