The Week of January 24th!

Hello Grown-Ups! You might have noticed that your child has been bringing home work from school to complete. I have noticed that since we have come back from winter break many students feel that completing their work is optional. I give them plenty of time in class to complete assignments but, unfortunately students are not using their time wisely. As a result, the third grade teachers have decided to reward those who have completed all of their work on Fridays. For a half hour before lunch, students who complete their work will get the option to choose between two different activities. Two teachers will be running the activities and two teachers will be helping students who still need to complete their work. We are hoping that the activities on Friday will be an incentive for students to use their time wisely and get their work done.

Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Wednesday, February 2nd and Thursday, February 3rd.  Please note: These will be early out days (1:00pm) and there will be no school on Friday (February 4th). Students will be creating a presentation to share with you during this time. They will talk about their learning scores and show off what they have been working on in computer science. MATH – MULTIPLICATION! MULTIPLICATION! MULTIPLICATION!! – I hope that got your attention. Your child cannot learn their multiplication facts without help from home. Please make sure that you are quizzing your child on these facts. You can buy cheap multiplication flash cards at many different stores, or you can create your own using index cards. Students in 3rd grade are required to have their 0-10 multiplication facts memorized before entering 4th grade. I have been quizzing students on their facts and they need to pass off 10 facts in a minute. Please take time every night to practice multiplication facts with your child.

We are still working on two step word problems. Below is the family letter from our math work book. On the second page of the letter, there is an activity to help students understand area. You are not required to do the activity, it’s just a suggestion if you’d like your child to practice at home.

ELA: This week we’re working on Unit 3 Week 4 in our Wonders book. Below is an outline of what we will be learning.
