Ms. Beckstead's 3rd Grade Class

Hello! We had a great Dr. Seuss week and it was so much fun to see the students participate. Below is what we will be working on for the week. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Math –We will be finishing up fractions this week and moving on to line plots. Below is the family letter from our math work book the explains comparing fractions. On the second page of the letter, there is an activity to help students with fractions. You are not required to do the activity, it is just a suggestion if you would like your child to practice at home. THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT WE ARE DONE WITH MULTIPLICATION. MANY STUDENTS ARE STILL WORKING ON MEMORIZING THEIR FACTS. While we work on our multiplication facts in class, it is so important that students practice their facts at home. 3rd graders are required to pass of their 0-10 facts before they move onto 4th grade.

ELA – This week we are working on Unit 5 Week 4 in our Wonders book. Below is an outline of what we will be learning.

Welcome to March! We have a big week coming up. Not only it it Dr. Seuss week, but we also get the amazing opportunity to have Missy Warwood join our class for the next two months. I am so excited for her to get to know and work with our amazing students. For Dr. Seuss week there will be activities everyday that students can participate in. Please remember that uniforms are still required except on Thursday when we get to wear our pjs. Below is what we will be working on for the week. Dr. Seuss Week!!

HELP! Our class has gone through 50 headphones that were purchased at the beginning of the school year. The last pair just bit the dust. I sent an email to a group of parents letting them know that their child does not have headphones at school. If you were one that received this email, will you please send in a pair for your child as soon as possible. We use them everyday. If you have any questions, or concerns, please let me know. Thanks!!!

I loved meeting with everyone for Parent Teacher Conferences. I love that I get to spend everyday with your wonderful children. Thank you! Below is what we have going on for the week.

Valentine’s Day Party – On Friday, February 12th, we will be having a Valentine’s Day party. We will have the opportunity to pass out and receive Valentines, however we need permission to do this. Your child’s name can be on them as who they are from, but please do not address them to the rest of the students. This is very time consuming when passing them out. Also, please remember that the Valentine’s should not contain food. We have 27 students in our class.

Inferencing Party – This party usually happens the Friday before the Super Bowl however I dropped the ball this year. So, we will be having this party with our Valentine’s Day party. We will be watching past Super Bowl commercials to work on our inferencing skills. We will be having Doritos, Lemon-Lime Soda, and Twinkies. At the beginning of the year you signed a food permission form giving permission for your child to have these treats. It things have changed please let me know.
