If I have missed anyone, I am sorry.  You are still more than welcome to come in and help.  Please remember to bring your apple peelers/corer if you have one.
Unfortunately, I will not be here tomorrow morning.  We will have a sub in.  The sub will show parents what to do and then the parents will take over the project.  Th sub will be working with students on a math page and parents will be calling up students to work with them.
If you have any questions, feel free to email me. Thanks!

Apples for Apple Witches

Parents and Students,
We are carving apple witches on Friday morning.  I need every student to bring one apple by Thursday.  This allows me to see how many apples I need to purchase for students who do not bring one.  The apple needs to be medium size.   Please contact me with any questions or concerns.
Thanks!

Volunteers needed for Apple Witches!

Parents,
I really want to do a fun witch apple project to correlate with our writing. In order to do this, I need several parent volunteers who would be willing to come into our class on Friday, September 18 at 9:30, bring an apple corer/peeler, and help with this project for an hour or so. I also would need a few parent volunteers to sew (at home) extra witch costumes (very easy sewing).  Please let me know by either commenting on this post or emailing me if you would be willing to help out with this project.
Thanks,
Ms. Beckstead

Homework for the Week of Sept. 14

Reading – 20 minutes every night
Students may use RAZ-KIDS for reading.  Username lbeckstead0 (0=zero, not the letter)

Sorts – Please print the words out and have them pick from the following categories to do nightly at home:
1. Sort your words into categories -Always do this one on Monday night and have your child explain the rule to you.  The rest of the week, your child may choose what he/she would like to do for the rest of the week.
2. Turn the word sorts face down. Time your child to see how long it takes them to sort them into the correct categories. (You may only choose this sort to do once a week)
3. Write the words 3x each.
4. Write the words in ABC order
5. Give your child a practice spelling test.
6. Play ball – Have your child grab someone to play catch and let the fun begin.  The person helping your child will say the word to him/her and he/she will spell the work back to you. Every time your child throws the ball have them say one letter of the word.  Continue until your child has spelled the word.  If your child makes a mistake, correctly spell the word for them, and have them start over.

New Side Links

Dear parents and students,
I have added two new links to the class links.  The first one id GoNoodle for the home, and the second is for Prodigy Game.  I have had many students for the information to sign up for GoNoodle at home, so that link should be helpful.  The second one, Prodigy Game, is a link for a interactive math program.  I will be using Prodigy for math homework starting next week.  I sent a note home with each student that tells more about Prodigy Game and it includes the students username and password.  We were able to log on today and start playing the game.  The students loved it and I loved that they worked on their rounding skills and were not complaining;)  This program also sends me information about when students logged on and for how log.  I can see how they did and know if any students are struggling with a math concept.  I hope to use Prodigy Game for a lot of our math homework.  By playing 15 minutes of the game, students are answering around 10-20 math questions.  We played the game for about 35 minutes today and they were begging me to let them play longer.  I hope that you will enjoy using this program in your home.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Thanks,
Ms. Beckstead

Math homework!

Parents and Students,
This weeks math homework was a nightmare to go through.  So, in order to fix this problem, I will be sending home homework folders.  When you child finishes their math homework have them place it in the homework folder.  On Friday morning send the homework folder to school with your child and they will hand it in.  I will then have a neat, organized homework pile and you will have some place to keep that weeks homework.  I will return the folders on Monday so you can start collecting the weeks math homework.  Look for the folders to come home on Wednesday.  Thanks!!

Homework Change for Wednesday and Thursday

Students and Parents,
I am switching the homework for Wednesday and Thursday.  Please do Wednesday homework on Thursday and do Thursday homework on Wednesday.  So on Wednesday night students will be doing the rounding practice and on Thursday night they will be doing Chapter 1.6.  I want the students to have a little more practice with rounding before we move on to lesson 1.6. Thanks!
