Ms. Beckstead's 3rd Grade Class

Once again we worked on some 7-UP sentences today.  If your child would like they may write a 7-UP sentence for a prize.  The sentence needs to be handed in tomorrow (Tuesday).  7-UP sentences answer the following questions: Who? What? When? Where? and Why?  I loved the sentences that I received this morning.  I was able to share them with the class and the students who wrote them were beaming with pride.  Keep up the great work!

Just a quick reminder about picture day on Monday (tomorrow).  Students need to be in their uniforms.  These pictures are for the school ID’s and yearbook.  I sent home the form to order pictures on Thursday.

A huge thank you to all that made the first week of school amazing!!  Thank you to everyone who signed up to volunteer, everyone who donated supplies to our classroom and to your amazing children.  I am the luckiest teacher because I have the best class.  THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Here are some of the things that we learned this week. 

• 7-UP Sentences – Ask your child what a 7-UP sentence is and see if they can tell you the five questions we answer in a 7-UP sentence. If your child writes a good 7-UP sentence over the weekend and brings it to me on Monday, I will let them choose something from the prize box.  It must be a good sentence.

• MAGIC – The students are now magicians.  We learned how to play a magic trick with a deck of cards.  Have your student demonstrate their ability to perform magic.  You will need a deck of cards with the numbers 2-9 and the Ace card.  You will n0t need tens, jacks, queens or kings.  Once your child has the cards, sit back and enjoy the show!

• Chrysanthemum – We learned about Chrysanthemum and her absolutely perfect name. We learned about what happens to her at school and how it made her feel.  Ask your child to retell you the story of Chrysanthemum.  Retelling a story is a huge part of third grade.  Many students can be great readers, but it does not mean that they can tell you what they read.  When you read with your child ask questions to see if they can recall what they read.  If they cannot tell you, you might want to pick easier books for your child to read. 

I have had many parents email me asking how to sign up for Remind.  You can go to https://www.remind.com/join/msbeckste and then enter in the information, or,  you can text the number 81010 and put in the message @msbeckste and this will sign you into our class. 
Also if you have signed up for our class blog, you should have received an email asking you to verify your email address.  Please do this.  You will not receive any blog updates through your email until you verify.

I hope everyone has had a great Memorial Day weekend!  I just wanted to remind parents and students about the things that we have on Tuesday.
       The students have the third grade pizza and movie party by POQA from 12:00-1:00!!  Students do not need to bring a school lunch.  Just a heads up that they will be providing Domino’s Pizza (cheese and pepperoni options), Lofthouse cookies and juice boxes for the students.  This party is for all the Box Tops monthly competitions we won throughout the year.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me. 
     The students need to bring their tie dyed t-shirts back to school on Tuesday and we will wear them throughout the week over their uniforms.
