We had a great visit with the 1st grade teachers at Quest today! They read a book, taught the students a funny song, and played a game. They sent us away with a fun straw and an awesome First Grade Skills Packet. This is a valuable resource to know what you can practice over the summer with your child. Watch for it in your child’s backpack today (making sure it doesn’t get thrown away).
Please make sure students bring their backpacks tomorrow.
Final Kindergarten Report Cards and iReady Diagnostic scores are coming home today. We hope you have a chance to celebrate the amazing progress and growth they’ve made! We are so proud of them!
4th term grades and citizenship are also available in Aspire. You can view the overall subject grade under “Unofficial Report Card”. For detailed scores by individual standards go to “Complete Progress Report”. For Citizenship go to “Citizenship Log”. (Make sure you have selected Term 4). Congratulate your child on their hard work this year to show mastery of the standards! They have shown remarkable growth!

Here’s a quick overview of new things we learned this week:
Comprehension strategy/skill: “Reread” and “Topic and Details”. We read several different texts to go along with our theme: “Protect Our Earth: What ideas can you suggest to protect the environment?”
High Frequency Words (Power Words): Review #31-40
Sound and spelling review: introduced long /o/ (spelled o and o_e), long /u/ (spelled u and u_e) and reviewed long /a/ and long /i/ (spelled a_e and i_e)
*To reinforce high frequency words, phonics and fluent reading, please keep reading decodable stories that are sent home each week. Thank you!
Science: After a brief review of the “Circle of Seasons” unit, students observed and described different kinds of weather that arctic foxes experience. Then we analyzed data about the weather where they live to identify seasonal patterns. We compared this to the weather data our class recorded during each season of our school year and found similarities and differences between the two!
We have spent a year growing and learning together as a class family. It has been our experience that saying goodbye to teachers and friends can bring a variety of responses from our young children. Our hope is that the transition will be fun and exciting for all our students.
But it can be difficult for them to express how they are feeling and even more challenging for them to understand what they are feeling. They may express these feelings by acting out, struggling to come to class, no reactions, or many other ways. Please know this is normal.
It is very important to us that each of them knows that they will always hold a special place in our hearts. We will continue to care about them, wherever they are- if we are close and see each other often or if we are far apart. Please know that you are always welcome to reach out to us–we enjoy hearing from our students and their families.
Here are a couple articles that have some practical ideas to support you and your child through this transition.

Math: Lesson 25 “Compose and Decompose Teen Numbers with Symbols”
Science: This week we made bird nests. We watched how birds make their nests and raise their chicks and figured out why birds lay their eggs in spring! If your child is curious about birds, check out the live cam at the Cornell Labs bird feeder here. You and your child can see what birds are grabbing for a snack right now at this bird feeder in Ithaca, New York. You never know what birds will stop by.
We want to express our heartfelt gratitude for the incredibly kind, generous, and thoughtful gifts and notes that your children brought to us this week. Each day brought delightful surprises and we’ve felt so loved!
It has been an absolute pleasure and honor to have had the opportunity to teach your children this year. Thank you for entrusting them to us and for your continued support!!
