Here’s a quick overview of new things we learned this week:
Comprehension strategy/skill: “Make and confirm predictions”/”Events: Sequence”. We read several different texts to go along with our theme: “Problem Solvers: What can happen when we work together?”
High Frequency Words (Power Words): good, who
Sound, spelling: introduced long /a/ (spelled a_e)
*To reinforce high frequency words, phonics and fluent reading, please keep reading decodable stories that are sent home each week. Thank you!
Math: Lesson 23: “Compose and Decompose Teen Numbers with Tools and Drawings”
Science: This week we’re learning about the four classic “seasons.” Your child was given a series of drawings and looked for patterns to figure out the seasons’ order. We also discovered which season our birthday occurs in.
Students will begin taking end of the year assessments this week. A few things that will help the students during this time: 1- Sleep 2- A nutritious breakfast 3- An “I can do it” attitude– encourage them to do their best
We really appreciate your help with this! It makes a big difference to your student when they are well rested and not hungry for testing. We want every student to have the best shot possible at performing well on all end of year assessments.
We are now beginning Unit 10 in Language Arts. Below are the sight words, oral vocabulary words, letters, and sounds we will be mastering during the next 3 weeks. In addition, we continue to read decodable books and passages. You can encourage us to read the passages we bring home each week. We are also writing sentences about the texts we read.
Math: Lesson 23: “Compose and Decompose Teen Numbers with Tools and Drawings”
Science: This week our class is keeping track of the weather and how it changes. Each day, we noted three things about the weather. Is it sunny, cloudy, or partly cloudy? Is it hot, cold, or mild (somewhere in between)? Is it rainy, snowy, or dry? In our Read-Along lesson, we listened to an illustrated digital storybook. In the story, Kevin becomes a weather detective to figure out why he keeps losing his warm clothes.
Science: We started our new unit on weather patterns. The anchor phenomenon for this unit is the amazing cycle of changes an arctic fox’s fur undergoes throughout the annual cycle of seasonal weather. During the introduction today, students generated observations and questions about the phenomenon and created a list of possible explanations for the phenomenon.
