Reminder About Reading Homework

Hi Parents,
Just a reminder about our new reading homework.  You’ll see a new passage come home with your student today.
  • Students should read this passage three times each day Monday – Thursday.
  • This counts towards the recommended 20 minutes of reading each day.
  • This is suggested reading homework, but is not required.
  • Parents may sign the worksheet and return it to school on Fridays.  Students who completed and return their homework will be entered into a weekly drawing.

New Reading Homework Starting 12/2/2019

Hello Parents,
A new reading passage will be coming home with your student on Monday.  Look in his/her blue folder.  One side has a reading fluency passage, the other side has instructions and activities.
  • Students should read this passage three times each day Monday – Thursday.
  • The passage is quite easy.  I will send more difficult reading passages home over the coming weeks.  (I wanted to start with something easy to get students used to the new routine.)
  • This counts towards the recommended 20 minutes of reading each day.
  • This is suggested reading homework, but is not required.
  • Parents may sign the worksheet and return it to school on Fridays.  Students who completed and return their homework will be entered into a weekly drawing.
  • You will see a fluency passage come home every Monday now.  This will be ongoing extra reading practice.

Doubles!

Turkey
Our next math lesson includes “DOUBLES” and “DOUBLES +1” problems.  Here is our doubles rap and doubles “pictures” we are starting to learn.  Long car trips might be a perfect time to memorize your doubles over the long break! 🙂  Hoping you all have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Here’s how we’re making mental pictures of our doubles

2 + 2 = 4      Picture a wagon with 2 wheels on each side and 4 wheels total

3 + 3 = 6      Picture a 6 pack of soft drinks, with 3 cans on each side

4 + 4 = 8      Picture a spider with 4 legs on each side and 8 legs total

5 + 5 = 10   Picture 5 fingers on each hand and 10 fingers total

6 + 6 = 12   Picture a dozen of eggs with 6 eggs in each row and 12 eggs total

7 + 7 = 14   Picture two weeks on a calendar with 7 days in each week and 14 days total

8 + 8 = 16   Picture a 16 pack of crayons with 8 crayons in each row and 16 crayons total

9 + 9 = 18   Picture a semi (18 wheeler) with 9 wheels on each side and 18 wheels total

10 + 10 = 20  Picture all your fingers and toes for a total of 20
