Interpret a multiplication equation as a comparison (for example, interpret 35 = 5 x 7 as a statement that 35 is 5 times as many as 7 and 7 times as many as 5). Represent verbal statements of multiplicative comparisons as multiplication equations.

Explanation: We are simply teaching that 35=5X7 can be written as a statement such as “35 is 5 times as many as 7.”

We are teaching that “is” means equals (=), and “times as many as” means times (X).
