I just had an awesome parent email me and tell me that Peery’s Egyptian Theater (2415 Washington Blvd. in Ogden) is showing the play Wizard of Oz tomorrow night at 7 PM. The tickets are only $5! I know it’s short notice but if you can take your kids to see it, that would be very helpful in doing our play next week.
In addition to the Prodigy that I assigned this week, will you please have your students get out their multiplication cards and practice multiplication? In class today, I realized that we need a lot of practice on those facts to be ready for 4th grade. Thanks so much for your help in this!
Parents, I went down to the POQA closet to get my backdrops from last year’s play out and they have been thrown away. SO….I need your help to make new ones. I was already planning on having the kids make one new part of the backdrop but had not planned on doing all of them. I NEED parents to come in this Friday morning from 8:30-11:30 and help us paint backdrops. Also, would any parents be willing to call Lowe’s or Home Depot and see if they will donate some refrigerator boxes for us and pick them up? Is anyone artistic enough that they could draw us a castle on one part?
We will be doing some practice and assessments on third grade sight words this week so there will be NO WORD SORTS. Please remember to read for 20 minutes each night! Turn in reading minutes by clicking on the link below: http://qacblogs.org/nichol.lloyd/homework/reading/ OR Sort-and-Reading-Log

Boxtops and Labels Please continue to send in boxtops and soup labels. Please Note: Campbells soup will be discontinuing their school label program as of July 1st. With this in mind, please take the time to cut just the area of the barcode on any cans you have in food storage or in your pantry and send them in. I know the case lots are going on now and we can use those bar codes, even if they don’t say “Labels for Education” on them. We are currently in 4th place and would love to move to 1st place. Friday May 13th will be the last day for Boxtops and Soup Labels for this year.
School Carnival Our school Carnival will be May 20th 5-8PM at the school. Pre-sale tickets are on sale now at a discounted price. Please go to https://squareup.com/store/poqa to purchase pre-sell tickets. They are also accepting 2 liter bottles of pop donations. Please turn any donated pop, in at the office.
Due to Sage Testing, we had to reschedule our final library day for next week. Next week’s library will be on WEDNESDAY NOT THURSDAY next week. Please send all library books to school on Wednesday so that Mrs. Anderson can start her inventory. Thanks!
I can’t believe that we are now into May! It’s crazy how this year has gone by so fast. Please remember to that we are still working hard in class and are working on SAGE testing. We have quite a few students who are not finished with their Sage writing due to students being late and absences. Please have your students here and on time if at all possible. Here are some important dates to mark on your calendar and announcements:

READ at least 5 times a week for 20 minutes! It is imperative that your child is participating in reading practice at home. Studies have shown that the more words a child read, the better their achievement is in all other areas. We will be starting book talks where the students talk about what they read the night before. Not only are they given homework points for reading, but they will be given participation points for discussing what they’ve read the night before. Thanks! Red Group: yellow sort 50 Cherokee, Emily, Nathan, Garrett, Kayl, Daxon, Aleksander, Katie, Lana
Sorts – Please print the words out and have them pick from the following categories to do nightly at home: (1 sort each night)
1. Sort your words into categories -Always do this one on Monday night and have your child explain the rule to you. The rest of the week, your child may choose what he/she would like to do for the rest of the week. 2. Turn the word sorts face down. Time your child to see how long it takes them to sort them into the correct categories. (You may only choose this sort to do once a week) 3. Write the words 3x each. 4. Write the words in ABC order 5. Give your child a practice spelling test. 6. Play ball – Have your child grab someone to play catch and let the fun begin. The person helping your child will say the word to him/her and he/she will spell the work back to you. Every time your child throws the ball have them say one letter of the word. Continue until your child has spelled the word. If your child makes a mistake, correctly spell the word for them, and have them start over. 7. Speed Sort- Time your child 3 times to see how fast they can sort their words. 8. Glue sort- Have your child glue the sort on a piece of paper. 9. Syllable Sort- Sort the words according to how many syllables they have.
