Homework Week of April 25

Remember we start SAGE testing this week so make sure your kids get plenty of rest and eat a good, healthy breakfast!

READ at least 5 times a week for 20 minutes!
It is imperative that your child is participating in reading practice at home. Studies have shown that the more words a child read, the better their achievement is in all other areas.  We will be starting book talks where the students talk about what they read the night before.  Not only are they given homework points for reading, but they will be given participation points for discussing what they’ve read the night before. Thanks!

Field Trip Pictures Request!

I just wanted to thank all of our amazing parent volunteers and students. Our field trip went smoothly and we had a blast! Chaperones, please email me pictures of your groups. I got a picture of each group on the Frontrunner but I am missing a couple of groups inside the aquarium and I want to post them on the blog. I really do appreciate the time our parents have put into making our field trips a success. I am sad that this was our last one this year and am truly grateful to each one of you that have taken time from your busy lives to spend the day with our class and your child.

Announcements

Remember our Field Trip is this THURSDAY!! Please turn in your money and permission slips by Monday!!

April 21  Field trip to the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium
Please notice the date change.  We had to move it one day due to transportation conflicts in Draper.  We’re sorry if this is an inconvenience.  The permission slip can be found here:

Aquarium Permission Slip

The cost for this field trip is $3.00 for each child and $7.00 for parents who would like to join us as chaperones.  Please note: Please do not plan on bringing other siblings on this field trip.  Please look at this as an opportunity to spend time with your 3rd grader and a few of his/her friends.
Remember that you will be dropping your student off at 8:15 at the Roy Frontrunner station and picking them up at 3:45. THIS TIME IS NOT A MISTAKE!!! We know that this is past the time of a normal school day, but with our schedule for the day it is necessary.

May 17 & 19 Class Play
Every year we do a small musical.  This year our musical is called Munchkin Mediation: Conflict Resolution  We will have a daytime and a nighttime performance to accommodate all parents.  The daytime performance will be on Tuesday, May 17 at 1:30 and the nighttime performance will on Thursday, May 19 at 5:00.  The program lasts approximately 30 minutes.  If your child CANNOT be to the nighttime performance, please e-mail me as soon as possible as that will affect our casting.  We will also be looking for help with props, costumes, choreography and scenery as we begin production.  If you are interested in helping, please e-mail me and I will add you to my list.

The parts for the play:
If you go to youtube and search Munchkin Mania: Conflict Resolution, you can find other classes that have done the play for costume ideas. Please DO NOT watch the entire play though; I like the parents and grandparents to be surprised by the story when they come see it. The students will all be memorizing their parts during class so no need to help with parts at home.
Thanks for your support in this!!

April 10 (That’s tomorrow) Spring Pictures

Uniforms are not required, but you need to follow regular dress down rules.  Every child will be photographed, unless you sign the bottom of the paper that was sent home.  I noticed there were still several papers in boxes.  If you would prefer your child not have their picture taken, pleas send a note and I will attach it to the paper.  These pictures will be sent home, and then you decide if you are going to purchase them.

Class Play

Parents,  The students are super excited about our class play. We will be working super hard to prepare for the big day. I encouraged the students to watch Wizard of Oz (the movie) at home to see what the characters look like, so they can get ideas on creating their own costumes. I was also surprised at how many didn’t know the story of Wizard of Oz so it also would be helpful to watch so they can understand the humor in our play. Please help them start brainstorming what they will wear for the play. Costumes will be needed at school one week before the play for dress rehearsals. The costumes DO NOT need to be elaborate. A simple, homemade costume would be perfect. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks in advance for helping with everything! Dress Rehearsal is Monday,  May 17th (8:45-9:45).   Our class will be performing the actual play for parents and students on Tuesday, May 17th in the Q1 Gym from 2:00-3:00 AND Thursday, May 19th at 5 PM. Please mark your calendars.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF ONE OF THESE DATES DOES NOT WORK, WE WILL NEED EVERYONE IN OUR CLASS IN ORDER PERFORM THE PLAY.
