Welcome to another great week! We have started math tutoring on Mondays and Wednesdays, and it’s already been a great success. If your student has expressed concerns about math and I have not contacted you please feel free to let me know.
Our cookie dough/beef jerky fundraiser starts Monday, I will be sending home information about it early this week. Contact me with questions you may have, if I can’t answer them I can certainly find someone who can.
In math, we will continue our quest to master standard algorithm for multiplication. Towards the end of the week, we hope to be ready to move into long division.
In ELA we will be working on plot and r-controlled vowels.
Yet another great week! I hope your child is enjoying their time in our classroom as much as I am. I have loved starting our in-class read-aloud book and the suspense of the videos that go along with it! Our 5th-grade family is coming together fast!
As mentioned previously, I will start math tutoring this week after school from 3:15-3:45 pm. Tutoring will be each week on Mondays and Wednesdays after school. I will send an email each week if your student could benefit from the topic we are covering in tutoring that week. Tutoring is used to help students with previously taught standards and those students who have been absent.
This week in math, we will begin lesson 4, where students will be introduced to the standard algorithm for multiplication. This is a big math standard for 5th grade. We will spend a week on multiplication, a week on division, and then a week reviewing. The good news is that the standard algorithm is the method we grew up with, so parents feel free to dive into math with your student.
In ELA, we will discuss how we can re-read to compare characters, settings, or events in a story, drawing on specific details in the text. We will discuss the genre of realistic fiction and words with the “u” sound.
Important reminders:
Cookie Dough Fundraiser starts Sept 16th.
Book Fair Sept 23rd – 27th.
Dollar Dress Down Sept 27th.
As always thank you for your continued support! Ms. Beal
I hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend! Last week we started into volume in math and will continue that this week. I will begin Math tutoring the week after this one and tutoring will be held from 3:15-3:45 Mondays and Wednesdays. Families can expect an email from me if their child would benefit. If your child expresses concern with math and I haven’t emailed you please let me know and I can add them in.
In ELA we will be discussing how we can ask and answer questions to determine text structures such as cause and effect, problem and solution, and compare and contrast. We have a set of new vocabulary and spelling words attached below, including what we will be further discussing.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.
Here we go, fifth-grade family! What an incredible first 3 days of school, I loved getting to know your child and seeing our classroom interact and come together. It’s going to be such a great year.
A quick reminder for this week – Friday is a teacher-only work day, with NO SCHOOL for students.
This week we will complete our beginning of the year diagnostics and Dibels testing, and start our first math and ELA lessons. Please contact me with any questions at all.
If you haven’t done so, and it’s feasible at this time please pay your $30 supply donation.
Hello soon to be 5th graders! I hope you are having an awesome summer! I am excited to meet you and learn together!
Please mark your calendars for Back to School Night on Monday, August 19th, from 6-8 pm. Presentations will be given every 30 minutes starting at 6:00 pm, with the final session beginning at 7:30 pm. Our classroom is in the south hallway, the last door on the right, Room 158.
TheFirst Day of School is Wednesday, August 21st. The first three days are early out days with dismissal at 1:10 pm.
Here are a couple of things you can do now to prepare:
Please subscribe to my blog by clicking on the icon to the right and inputting your email address.
Please complete this short Family Survey to help me get to know your student better.
Please complete the Food Permission form for the school year.
Instead of purchasing school supplies, please pay a donation of $30 here: Online Payments, marking “Donations-Class Supplies” and selecting “5 Beal” in the teacher drop down. You can also pay in the Q1 Office. Please do so on or before Back to School Night and I will take care of all the shopping, labeling, and organizing of class supplies. To see what your $30.00 will cover, please click on the class supply list under the Parent Info tab above. Please note, that these are the only supplies allowed; anything else will be sent home.
Make a $20 donation for a special end-of-year field trip. This can be paid at the same time as your school supplies by marking “Field Trips“.
If your student is walking home we need a Walk Release form filled out.
Additionally, students will need to bring the following items on the first day of school:
Headphones or earbuds – labeled with the student’s name. Parents will be responsible to replace broken or damaged headphones/earbuds throughout the year. We use headphones multiple times every day, throughout the day in the classroom. Please try to find the highest-quality headphones possible.
Water bottle – Student may bring a small water bottle that they can have with them throughout the day.
Small bag if needed – Only small bags are allowed for personal items if needed. Please, no large backpacks. They are not necessary. We are a technology school so we don’t send papers home often and classroom storage space is limited.
Students can prepare for 5th grade by reading for 20 minutes every day, and practicing their multiplication and division math facts. Most of all, I hope you can get outside and have some fun!
Please email me with any questions or concerns you may have. We’re going to have an incredible year!
Teacher Appreciation Week will be held May 6-10. Please encourage your students to show their gratitude for everything these remarkable men and women do every day. POQA has created a flier, (attached) with a theme for each day, to provide the students with ideas for ways they can show their appreciation.
Thank you for all you do to help make Quest the BEST!
