Dollar Dress Down Day

by on Oct.29, 2013, under Uncategorized

Since we were asked to wear our uniforms on our field trip Friday, we get to have our own class dollar dress down day!  🙂  We will have it on Friday, November 1st.

Students are able to wear their costumes that go along with their Trick or Reading project in the morning, and then for a dollar, can change into their dress down clothes for the rest of the day.

Remember that costumes for the Trick or Reading are OPTIONAL.  If students don’t wear a costume, they are welcome to pay their dollar and wear dress down clothes all day.  🙂

A few things….

by on Oct.27, 2013, under Class News

First of all, THANK YOU so much to everyone who helped make our field trip to the Apple Store a HUGE success!!  I hope everyone had as much fun as I did!!  🙂

Second:  Quest does not send out paper grades anymore.  Your student’s grades are posted in SIS.  Please log on to see Term 1 grades.  As mentioned before, the grading/missing assignment guidelines will be different starting now.  Missing work reports will be handed out on Mondays and if the work is not in by Friday, it’s a permanent zero.

Third:  This week…is CRAZY!!  🙂  We have the Earthquake Trailer (it was rescheduled), Halloween, Trick or Reading projects, and the class earned a Read-a-Thon.  🙂

Halloween:
This will be a short day (1:00).  Students are allowed to wear costumes to school–no masks, blood, or gore.  We will be doing a costume parade starting at 9:00, then we will head back to class to do some Halloween activities.  It will then be time to clean up, send the kids to recess and lunch…and then they get to be with you!  🙂

Trick or Reading:
If you can’t get the info for the posters on the blog, PLEASE let me know ASAP, so that you can get full points for the project!  The pumpkins and posters are due on November 1st.  Students can bring them in on the 31st if they’d like, but please don’t send them any earlier.  We don’t have room in our classroom to store 27 pumpkins! (not to mention, I don’t want the smell of 27 pumpkins!)  Students will set up their posters, pumpkins, and books and wait for classes (and parents if you’d like to come!) to come through.  Students should be prepared to give a quick (I mean super quick) summary of their story.  We will do this until around 10:30/11:00.

Class Read-a-Thon:
The class has earned a Read-a-Thon for their awesome behavior, and following directions!  We will be doing this in the afternoon on November 1st.  Students are allowed to bring in blankets and pillows to be comfy while they read!

TOMORROW

by on Oct.24, 2013, under Uncategorized

I was curious how this was going to work with the Dollar Dress Down Day and our Field Trip was going to work. Here is how it’s going to work. Our class is still going to need to wear our uniforms on the field trip. However, our class will be able to do a dollar dress down day, sometime next week. Our class will just bring their dollars on that day, and will be able to dress down. I haven’t gotten the official word on what day that is exactly yet. I will let you know as soon as I know! 🙂

Please remember to be at the train station tomorrow morning BY 8:30. Kids need to have a backpack with their lunch and water bottle in it. Wear school uniform (it doesn’t matter what color of shirt), shoes to walk in, and a jacket. We will be returning to the train station in Roy at 2:47. Please be there on time to pick up your kiddos! 🙂

Any questions, or if I forgot to add anything, let me know!

IMPORTANT CHANGES FOR TERM 2

by on Oct.23, 2013, under Uncategorized

A couple of things that you need to be aware of for second term:

1-Any work that is over a week late, will be a zero.  Every Monday, I will print out a missing work paper to be sent home.  If the assignments are not turned in by Friday 3:00–they turn to zeros and can not be made up.

2-I am going to become very picky on the Reader Response Journals.  They have gotten pretty sloppy lately.  The letters aren’t being signed, the format isn’t there, and most importantly there is not much deeper level thinking going on while writing them.  Being an accelerated class, I expect the kids to be thinking at their levels, and I’m not seeing that reflected in many of the letters.  Starting in term 2 (Monday), if any of the scores are lower than an 8-the students will need to redo their letters to receive a grade, and then that letter will be counted as late.  It’s not doing any good to have the students not thinking and doing their best work.  It’s also very frustrating to see the students not working to their full potential.  My job is to push these students and challenge them.  🙂

Thanks for your understanding and support.
