Hey there! Sorry this is so late getting out…I was in a meeting until 5:00, and then had to run and pick up my boys… But I have a few things for the week…

first of all, NO READER RESPONSE JOURNALS THIS WEEK!! We have a lot coming up/to do this week, so we are taking a break from journals this week.

Words Their Way: We DO have Words Their Way homework this week! Tonight, the students should be brainstorming words that fit into the patterns we discussed in class. I will upload the lists, just in case, to the blog shortly. Every night this week, we will have WTW homework, which will be due the next morning.

Biography Bookmarks are due on the 12th!! These papers (which were printed and given to students a week ago–or you can find them on the blog) need to be completely filled out and brought in on the 12th. We will be typing them in class on the 13th-and then they will be printed to attach to the trifold for the Wax Museum.

As you are all aware, Valentine’s Day is on Friday. 🙂 We will be having a class party from 1-2. We will be doing center type rotations with games and activities and then we will pass out Valentines. Please follow school policy and do not attach candy/food to the Valentines. You are welcome to attach some other item such as pencils, stickers, bouncy balls, etc. We will be having a Valentine Box Contest on Friday as well. The students voted and there will be two categories to win: most creative and funniest. Students will vote on their favorites during the party on Friday. I will not be sending out a list of students’ names for Valentines. Instead, just have the students sign their names on the cards. This makes it a lot easier/faster to pass out Valentines, and then no one gets left out, etc. We will have 25 students receiving Valentines (and one teacher! hehehehe!!) 😉 Please send 25 Valentines with your student on Friday.

As you may have heard, we are starting our Rock Presentations! The kids are super excited..as am I!! I LOVED the fossil presentations, and can’t wait to see what the kids come up with this time! We will be presenting these the first week of March.

As always, all the due dates and upcoming events/activities are posted on our Classroom Calendar! 🙂

The Pioneer Essays are due on FRIDAY, the 7th…not THURSDAY!  🙂

Also, don’t forget to check the classroom calendar for important due dates…there are A LOT coming up in February for the Wax Museum!  

Just a quick reminder that our Library time has been moved to Thursday, so don’t forget your library books tomorrow!! 

Our Read A Thon is also tomorrow.  Don’t forget something to read!  (It’s kind of the important piece to the READ a thon) 🙂   If you haven’t turned in your pledge sheets, send them tomorrow!  🙂

Last thing:  Don’t forget our Field Trip is on Friday.  If you could donate $4 to cover the bus, that would be FABULOUS!!  Turn your money into the office.  🙂

Hey there fabulous parents…if anyone has volunteer hours to fill…you are more than welcome to come in and change our hallway bulletin board (this week or next week), or I have a whole lot of books in my classroom library that I have been working on leveling.  If anyone would like to come in and do this…you would be my hero!  😉

This week we will have our Read a Thon (school wide project) and our field trip! Its is also early out day on Friday!

If you haven’t turned in the bright green papers for the Read a Thon, please do so ASAP. We will be having our Read a Thon on Thursday from 9:30-10:30. We will also be moving library from Friday to Thursday, due to our field trip–don’t forget to bring in those library books!! 🙂

Friday’s Field Trip: We are asking students to wear their best dress to go to the theater. This means girls should wear skirts or dresses and boys should wear ties. If you don’t have best dress, or just really don’t want to wear that–the other option is navy blue uniform pants with a uniform white shirt.
We will be leaving at 8:35–Please make sure you are on time, or you will be left behind. 🙁 Students do NOT need to bring a back pack that day to school. All they need is their lunch (or they can have school lunch) and their coat. We will be walking a little ways to get to the theater…so please make sure they have a coat. We will come back and have lunch and an activity in the classroom, at around noon.

There is A LOT of missing work out there!! Please double check that it all gets turned in by Friday, or they will become zeros. 🙁

Don’t forget that tomorrow (Friday, the 17th) is the last day of Term 2!  ALL missing assignments MUST be turned in tomorrow by 3:00.  I will be going through and fixing any missing work and then locking the grades right after school.  Once they are locked, they are permanent.  

Permission slips to go on the field trip to the Capitol Theater MUST be turned in by tomorrow as well.  We need a final count for tickets by tomorrow afternoon.  If we don’t have a signed permission slip, we will assume that the student isn’t going and then they won’t have a ticket.  🙁

One more…don’t forget there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, the 20th!  Enjoy the long weekend!

Just a heads up…I need to have a note if you want your student to stay in from recess or PE.  I have had a lot of students saying that their parents want them to stay inside because they aren’t feeling well.  I have no problem with this, as long as I have a note.  🙂  If there is no note, the kids will be going outside.  (unless of course there is bad air–the asthma kids will automatically stay inside).

I have had a lot of parents email or ask when a good time to come in to volunteer would be.  I’m trying out a new system…thanks for your patience ahead of time.  😉  If you look at the top of the Blog, there will be a tab that says Volunteer.  If you click on it, it will lead you to a link that should take you to a spot where you can go to sign up for a time to come in and volunteer.  I’m hoping this will also work really well, and I can use it to set up parent/teacher conferences!  🙂

Also, if you’d like to come in to talk to me about any issues, or how your student is doing (Second Term ends on the 17th)…please set up a time and we will meet!  🙂  I’m excited to use this tool!  (hopefully it works!  hhahaha!!)
