We have traveled back in time in our classroom!  We have transformed our classroom to a one-room pioneer school in 1853!

Students (as well as their teacher) now have new 1854 identities and rules for the classroom.

Allow me to introduce myself!
My name is Miss White.  I was born in Cave City, Kentucky.  I was the oldest of seven children.  My mother and father were poor farmers who moved west in search of better land.  My mother was kidnapped by Indians on our journey west, which left me (13 years old) to act as mom to a large family.  At age 17, I became engaged to Johnny Pritchart, a neighboring farmer. Before we could get married, Johnny was killed in battle during the Mexican War.  I was heartbroken and vowed that I would never marry again. I raised my younger brothers and sisters and decided to teach school because I loved children.  I am now 33 years old and live with my brother, Tom, and his family.

This is a great way to help the students learn what life was like in the pioneer times.

Here is a letter that helps explain what we are doing. 🙂

Next Week…

by on May.02, 2014, under Uncategorized

Next week we will be taking our Sage Language Arts test on Wednesday and Friday (10:20).

We are also in need of about 50 more cans for the Rendezvous!

If you haven’t started thinking/creating something for the Rendezvous, I would suggest getting started. 🙂  All projects need to be brought in to be graded on Monday, the 19th.  If you haven’t brought back your permission slips, you need to do that ASAP.  The Rendezvous permission slip lets me know that the kids and parents know what is coming and when things are due.

Field Trip permission slips have been sent home. (they are the blue ones!)  They need to be back by the 16th.  If you are planning on going (parents) please keep in mind that you will need to pay your way into the museum–which is $15/person.

Please don’t forget to continue checking the Classroom Calendar!  There is A LOT of stuff coming up throughout the month!  One of those would be our final field trip!  The kids will be bringing home permission slips with all the information.  I’m also attaching a copy here just in case.  🙂

Library

by on Apr.29, 2014, under Uncategorized

If your kiddo has any missing or overdue library books, please get them turned in!  Our last library day for the year will be on May 16th.  If anyone has missing books, they will not be able to participate in field day.  🙁

Also, if you see any of our classroom books floating around your house, we need those turned in ASAP.  I am still missing some of my “big head” biographies (from the Wax Museum) and a few of our reading group books.

Thanks a million for your help!!

Rendezvous

by on Apr.24, 2014, under Uncategorized

We are getting ready for our Fourth Grade Rendezvous!  In Social Studies,  we are studying about explorers and pioneers.  We have learned that they didn’t have money, and had to trade for supplies.

The permission slip/explanation is posted under the “Monthly Projects” tab at the top of the blog.  There is also a hard/paper copy being sent home this week.

The first part of our Rendezvous Day will be pioneer activities.  Students will rotate through the fourth grade classrooms and participate in each activity.  After lunch students will set up the economic part of the Rendezvous and “sell” and “buy” their products.

The students will be earning “pelts” starting on Monday.  This will be what they will use as their “money.”

For our Rendezvous (May 22nd) we are in need of empty tin cans for a project.  They need to be the smaller soup can size, not the giant sizes, please!

You can bring them in whenever you get some empties!  🙂

Thanks a million!!
