Thank you Quest Families for being so amazing! The response to the Ingersoll fund raiser was amazing! I love seeing the faces of our students as they added to the collection box. I’m sure the Ingersoll’s appreciate the help and the love that was shown through these generous donations.
As many of you have heard, we are collecting quarters to adopt a penguin. This is a service learning project that evolved from a Skype call we had with a penguin rescue in South Africa. Of course they won’t send us an actual penguin, but we will have a picture of the penguin, a thank you letter from the penguin, and an opportunity to name the penguin our grade adopts. In return, we’ll be contributing to the care and rehabilitation of an endangered African Penguin.
This is the week, our “Crabitats” will become a reality. Watch for pictures as the students create and put into action what they have learned from our STEM project from last month and this month.

We will be having our Valentines Party on Tuesday. We are asking those who are volunteering to come a 1:30 to help get set up. All children will be offered vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry ice cream with sprinkles, chocolate topping, caramel, strawberry toppings. We will also be having conversation hearts. If your child is not able to have any of these things, please let me know as soon as possible.
The students have created Valentine sacks and do not need to create a box at home. They are more than welcome to bring Valentines for their classmates at school. In order to not create feelings, the students have been told if they bring something for one person, they bring it for everyone in the class.

I hope that those of you who watched the Super Bowl saw the Skittles commercial, it was perfect one to match our Inference Activity, it will probably be added to the list for next year’s viewing. It was the favorite commercial at our house.
We’ve been reading Wonder, which is a fabulous book, and it is told in various people’s point of view. After each point of view, we write a summary of that section, and our reaction to it. If you have not subscribed to Seesaw, please do so you can follow your child and the things they add to their Seesaw Portfolio. Here’s what one of the students wrote this week:
In the book wonder, Via’s point of view starts out when she goes to school with her dad. She is really good friends to two girls. So when Via was at school she saw her two friends who were talking. Via was very mad because they were not the same as they use to be. They changed the way they looked and they made lots of new friends. So Via ignored them and she did her own things without them. Later a few nights later she asked her mom to tuck her in, Her mom said she would but never did, instead Via’s dad walked into her room and said that her mom was talking to August about his first day at school. So Via’s dad tucked her in and he left after bringing their dog into her room. The next morning was the Halloween, August went to school and Via felt sad so she and her mom stayed home while August and their dad left. Via’s mom said to watch a movie together, but before they started the phone rang and the nurse said that August was sick. Later Via went into Augusts room and talked. I think Via feels mad and sad because her mom does not spend as much time with her and because her friends don’t act the same to her.
Parent Teacher Conferences
I will be meeting with Parents on February 21st and 22nd. I would love to meet with as many of you as possible. This is a great opportunity to share what your child has done up to this point in the year. If you have not signed up for Bloomz, please see the paper that your child brought home last week.
Multiplication Madness
Our Multiplication Madness will end on February 14th. We will be having an ice cream party on February 14th for our Valentine’s Party. We are in need of parents who are willing to donate chocolate ice cream or caramel topping for the grade. I will post a volunteer sign up on Monday evening. We will also need Volunteers to help dish up ice cream that afternoon. I will put that on Bloomz also
Homework
Reading: 20 minutes of reading and the questions on Google Classroom. I think we have the problems solved and everyone should have their own homework this week and it won’t be taken over by someone else.
Math
Prodigy Game 15 minutes 3 nights. Please study your multiplication facts too.
Spelling
We are working on 3 and 4 syllable words that end in -tion and -sion. This is the same pattern we worked with last week and I felt like we needed one more week as these are very difficult patterns.
Thanks for all you do!

Homework STRESS!
It is Thursday and homework, for this week is not going as planned! Many have experienced problems in Google Classroom. With this in mind, I will not count this weeks homework against you! Every quarter I drop of your lowest 2 homework scores, and this will be one of them if your homework didn’t work. I will still be recording your Prodigy, and make sure you click the link to record your library minutes. I apologize for any stress the homework caused!!!!
Thanks for understanding,
Mrs. Goldsberry

Remember to fill out the library Google Doc (You’ve been amazing at this!) and record how many minutes you read for the week. I will also be asking for volunteers 3 times a week to give a book talk on what they’ve been reading. I will introduce both of these changes in class on Monday.

I am so impressed with the way our class has grown up! As I read the Inauguration Reflections, I was very impressed with the things our class members noticed and the grown up things you all had to say. I really loved what one student said, and can’t resist sharing:
The Inauguration
Today Mr. Trump became president. I personally think he will be a good president for the U.S. I also hope he will make America great again. In the inauguration he said he will make our country great again. “I will help make you and your country safe again” Said Donald Trump. I think that Donald will take care of our country. If he does.. I hope he will win next election in 4 years. He probably will make a better country. At first, I thought he was a horrible person, but now I think he is nicer for some reason.
To see your child’s reflection on the Inauguration and about the book Wonder, please connect with us on Seesaw (A new sign up sheet is coming home today). If you are already connected, you should be able to see what your child took from these two experiences.
HOMEWORK CHANGES!!!!!
With us being at half year, we are going to change homework just a little bit, and focus more on the literary skills we have learned in class. Please read so you understand what your child is doing.
READING
Reading and applying the literary skills we learn in class in imperative in becoming better readers. With this in mind, I still require every child to read 20 minutes every night. After reading, please have your child respond to the questions on the document in google classroom. Remember to fill out the library Google Doc (You’ve been amazing at this!) and record how many minutes you read for the week. I will also be asking for volunteers 3 times a week to give a book talk on what they’ve been reading. I will introduce both of these changes in class on Monday.
SPELLING
You will not be typing in sorts for homework. I will post the pattern we are working on and give examples of the pattern. You can practice at home, but we will do a lot of practice with the words in class, during centers.
This week: Lesson 12

I am so impressed with the way our class has grown up! As I read the Inauguration Reflections, I was very impressed with the things our class members noticed and the grown up things you all had to say. I really loved what one student said, and can’t resist sharing:
