I am proud of everyone for the amazing job last week. I know there were some difficulties with technology, some questions about assignment expectations, and a little confusion about how it all works. But- you all still did AMAZING, and this week will be a little smoother. Make sure to read to the end of the blog for some

What the heck is even going on?

Parents,

After many meetings and lots of Ibuprofen and Coke Zero, we have come up with a plan for how school will be running over the next two weeks. Administration has emailed information to all families with details about when student work and devices can be picked up.

Student Work Packets: There are 2 separate bundles in the envelope, one for this week and one for next week. In the Student Packet, you will find all of our classwork which is organized by day and outlined on the Daily Agenda. The agenda specifies the time that students should log on to Google Classroom and Google Meet for live instruction, as well as a list of the work that should be completed daily. An instructional video on how to do this can be found by following this link:
http://qactube.org/index.php?action=play&media_key=1bbb26dd3e3fd7f2
A link to access Google Classroom can also be found on the blog.

Live Instruction: We will be using the Google Meet’s App for live Math and ELA instruction each day.  All students are welcome to join our discussion.  If students are unable to log on during the live stream, a video of the instruction will be posted to the Google Classroom Stream later that day. This will also be linked in the Google Classroom assignment for the day. We will give it a try this Wednesday and Thursday and see how it goes.
Student Login Cards: Each packet includes a student login card that includes all of the information that they will need for any of the online programs.

Please be open to changes as we figure out a routine that works for all of us.  We will miss seeing all of your kids, but hope everyone stays healthy and safe.  As always, please reach out if you have any questions.

Don’t lose your minds (or login cards),

The 3rd Grade Teachers

2 Week School Dismissal

Parents, the following is the notification that was emailed from: Quest Academy
We are currently working to determine all of the details that will be involved with this learning model. I will keep you updated with information as it becomes available, and I appreciate the patience and understanding you are all showing. I recognize that this is a situation that will create stress and inconveniences for many of you and I want you all to know how much I appreciate your willingness to cooperate and make the best of the circumstances
~Mrs. Alexander

Quest Families,

The State Superintendent has informed us that, starting Monday, all Utah K-12 schools will be in “School Dismissal” for two weeks. During school dismissal at Quest, school employees will continue to come to school on a daily basis to provide online instruction to students, who will remain at home. Please note, that our Spring Break immediately follows this dismissal. Thus, students will not return to Quest until Monday, April 6th.

The State has allowed Utah schools two days during the dismissal to prepare before e-learning/distance instruction begins. Monday and Tuesday will be used by Quest employees to prepare and get all instructional materials and resources ready for Wednesday. All Quest students will start instruction Wednesday morning. As Friday, March 20 was already scheduled as a teacher work day, students will not need to log in for e-learning on that day. Thus, e-learning for next week will only take place on Wednesday and Thursday. Every day of the following week (March 23-27) e-learning will be provided.

This Monday and Tuesday will be used for parents to pick up any packets or devices that students may need during the next two weeks (more details regarding pick-up times to come). Parents of k-5 students should check blogs and emails frequently for instructions and information regarding student access to e-learning and other updates. Parents of 6-9 students will be receiving information from Mrs. Slaugh via One Call Now regarding this same information.

For those who do not have access to Wi-Fi, Comcast is offering free internet for the next two months to low-income families. Read more here: https://www.internetessentials.com/

Families who are on free or reduced lunch should be receiving an email on Monday with instructions on how lunch will be offered during the two-week dismissal.

Children with IEPs will receive their service time through e-learning. Again, look for emails from Quest to inform parents and students of when those service times will be met by special education teachers and teaching assistants.

Please note that attendance will be taken on a daily basis (except for those days when e-learning is not provided). Our hope is that every effort would be made by students and parents to ensure student attendance. Our expectations remain high and our educators are preparing instruction that will continue to challenge students. As a mastery-based school, we will continue to help our students reach proficiency in our State standards.

We appreciate all your help and support as we implement these changes to follow state guidelines and recommendations.

OPTIONAL –  yet HIGHLY encouraged by Mrs. Alexander – REVIEW
  • Read at least 20 minutes per day. Making sure that your child does his/her reading daily is the single most helpful thing you can do to support educational success.
  • I have been trying to make time for students to work on REFLEX during the day, but some days it just isn’t possible. Please check with your child to see if they got their green light during the day. If not, doing it at home would be a big help to your child!
