  • UPCOMING IMPORTANT DATES
  • Sept. 5 – Labor Day – No School

Reading in Class: Review Week

STRATEGY: We are talking about summarizing and how to identify the beginning, middle, and end of a story.

PHONICS: Short a and short i words (can, cap, cat, nap, mad, nip, tin, pig, six, and pin)

Math in Class:

Reading Passages will begin being sent home next week on Monday (after reading testing is completed this week) to be worked on each day and then returned on Friday of the same week.

Make it enjoyable and fun. You can even read to them and then ask them questions!! 20+ minutes a day is a great goal.  Your child should be bringing home decodables in addition to their weekly passage throughout the week. These stories can be read and returned for class money. If they read them 3 times out loud with you, please sign it and have them bring it back. It is so important to read every day and ask fact finding questions from the story to develop your student’s comprehension; this is key to meeting the end of the year benchmark goals for 2nd grade, without practicing and developing this skill of retell it is extremely difficult hitting the end of the year benchmark reading level which begins this week.

Beginning of level benchmark testing required by the state begins this week. Please make sure your child has a good working pair of headphones as soon as possible if not already brought to school. We use headphones multiple times throughout the day.
