Click here to view and print our 135 high frequency words. Students are expected to learn to READ and SPELL all 135 words. Link: Wonders-Sight-Words-by-week Study the words and sentence of the week using any method of your choice to prepare for the weekly Friday spelling test. The following are possible study activities:
- #1 FLASHCARD FLIP = Create a set of “flash cards” with all of your spelling words. Make a flashcard for each word to practice nightly. See if you can find little words hiding. Notice the vowel sounds and consonants sounds. You can create them on index cards, cut out paper, or even create them at this site: Kitzkikz
- #2 WRITING RALLY = Write all of your spelling words 3 times each in pencil.
- #3 TOTALLY TYPING = Type all of your spelling words 3 times each on the computer.
- #4 RAINBOW RUN = Write each of your spelling words using “Rainbow colors” with 3 different colored pencils or crayons. Trace over each word 3 times in 3 different colors.
- #5 SHAPE MAKER = Draw a simple picture or shape (star, heart, etc.) – parents may help with this part to be sure that the shape is the right size, simple enough, etc. Draw the shape on one side of a piece of paper using dark lines (a marker works great for this). On the other side of the paper, follow each of the lines by writing the spelling words using small lettering. Continue until the entire shape is recreated using spelling words.
- #6 ALPHABETICAL SPELL-I-CAL = Write all of your spelling words in alphabetical order, or ABC order.
- #7 WORDLE WONDER = Go to Wordle and click the CREATE button. Enter your spelling words and see what you have created!
- #8 SCRIBBLE DIBBLE = Create a scribble with a black marker. Make sure you create enough spaces to fit all of your Spelling Words. Write a word in each section and then use your crayons to fill in each section with a spelling word for a colorful creation!
- #9 GLORY STORY = Create a story using your spelling words for the week using your computer!
- #10 WORD SHAPE SHARE = Create a fun worksheet using spelling word shapes and then complete it: A to Z teacher stuff
Extra Math Practice/Review
How quickly can you master your addition and subtraction strategies? Use these practice pages to play “Beat the Clock”:
Print out the strategy practice page we are working on this week, place in a plastic sheet
protector and use a dry-erase marker to practice (or print several copies and write with pencil). When you’re ready, have a parent time you while you complete all 20 problems. Can you beat your time? The target goal is to finish all 20 problems in 1 minute, with 90% accuracy (18 out of 20 problems correct). If you don’t like being timed, complete the page at your own pace.
