February Happenings

Stores are now stocked and ready for Valentine’s Day.  To help you properly prepare for our class celebrations, here are the Quest guidelines in regards to Valentine’s Celebrations at Quest:

“Per Quest’s wellness policy, all food in the classroom must be pre-approved. Furthermore, parental permission is also required for students to consume food during class parties. Due to this policy—as in years past—student Valentines cannot contain edible items. Suggestions for nonfood Valentines include pencils, erasers, bubbles, stickers, etc. Please note that such items, including Valentine cards, are in no way required.”

Our class will be passing out Valentine’s cards Friday, February 12th. Students may bring a Valentine’s box to collect their special notes. If they don’t bring one, I will provide a bag for them to use. It is optional to bring Valentines to pass out, if they do, they need to bring enough for 27 students. Remember: NO food items.

Egg Drop Collision

Egg Drop CollisionFriday, tomorrow, we are dropping eggs off of our school. This is an optional activity, if they would rather watch and not participate, that is not a problem

In science we have been learning about energy transfer and collision. There is one rule to this activity. The egg can’t be a hard boiled egg 😉

They can bring their eggs protected in anything. They have to be able to carry it and be reasonable about what they use. They may bring one or two eggs to drop. Dr Dave will be our drop expert, we will watch from below.

TOMORROW IS SPIRIT SHIRT DAY!

Additionally, please fill out the survey to be part of my study. I need you to fill it out even if you pick to not have them participate. Thanks

Permission to participate in Mrs. Clark’s case study ;)

I am excited to be working on my Masters Degree and would like to use your student’s data in a study I am conducting as part of my degree program. I want to measure student growth as I teach adding and subtracting fractions in our classroom. I am planning on using manipulatives, different strategies, and having students learn this standard during collaboration activities. I want to have them learn from their peers and not just problem repetition from a workbook. I will also be testing student comprehension of mixed numbers in the study. This is a voluntary study, and you are under no obligation to allow me to use student scores. I will be very careful not to identify the student and keep all of their information private. I will be using only student assessment data that cannot be tied directly to individual students and nothing else. If you would allow your child to participate in this 10 day study, please fill out the following form. You are also able to withdraw permission to use this information before the study is published. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Thank you!

Week of December 14-18

NO TUTORING this week. We will start again after we return back in January.

REMINDER: Secret Santa gifts are due Tuesday, December 15th. Please let me know if you need help getting the gift. They can be created, homemade, $3-$5 from the store, or gently used from home. They need to come wrapped and labelled with just the student’s name on them, not who they are from;)

Friday is the only day that students will come dressed differently. The other activities are just for the Jr. High building-not the elementary. Friday is a free dress down day-or wear a Christmas (ugly) sweater. Friday is early out day too! 1:00! Students will return back to school on January 4th. Enjoy Winter break!!!

Secret Santa Gift Exchange

This year our class will be having a Secret Santa gift exchange instead of our Annual 4th grade rendezvous due to Covid-19. Here is how we will make the exchange work: Students will draw names today and buy/find an item that is valued at about $3-$5 dollars. It can be new or gently used, even homemade. The gift needs to be brought to school wrapped and labelled with just the receivers names-NOT whom it is from. This way the exchange will be a secret.

It is optional to bring gifts. I would like all of the kids to participate if they are here Thursday, December 17th. If you would rather me buy the gift and bring it for the students, please let me know. So, that I have time to gather and wrap any extra gifts.

The gifts have to be in the classroom by Tuesday, December 15th. So, I can have time to let all the cooties die.

Thanks
