Optional 2nd Qtr Book Reports are underway!

Screen Shot 2019-09-09 at 4.55.01 PMIf you have recently finished a book, we would love to hear about it! REMEMBER THERE ARE TWO RULES: (1) You must finish the book before giving a report, (2) No spoilers. I recommended a book that was Historical fiction or nonfiction but any book finished works too! If you would like a guardian to attend your presentation…let me know 😉
Additional Book Report info can be found here

Her are some ideas you can use to present your book to the class (OPTIONAL):

  • All presentations must be 3-5 minutes.
  • Share a brief summary of your book.
  • Tell us enough to get us interested, but not so much that it ruins the ending.
  • Give the book a rating of 1-5 stars, depending on how well you liked it. The more you liked it, the more stars you will give. Explain to the class why you rated it the way you did.
  • Be prepared and use good presenting skills (speak loudly).
  • Use one of the Creative Ideas below, or get approval from Mrs. Clark if you have an original idea. After the first quarter, do not use an idea you have used before.

Creative Ideas :

  • Puppet Pals or post on SeeSaw.
  • Google Slide Show
  • Write a TV or radio commercial advertising the book.
Prepare a skit about your book and perform it for the class.
  • Design a book jacket (different from the one it already has) illustrating your three favorite scenes. Include a summary on the inside cover.
  • Build a diorama (in a box) of your favorite scene or setting.
  • Design a map of the area where the story takes place. Make sure to include a scale and legend.
  • Make an illustrated time line for a historical book.
  • Design a vacation or informational pamphlet about a location in the book.
  • Design a mobile, using pictures of characters or places in the story.
  • Pretend you are a book critic for a local newspaper or TV station and share your review of the book.
  • Dress up like a character in the book and describe the role that character plays in the book.
  • Compose a song about your book, an event in the book, or one of the characters and sing or play it for the class.
  • Prepare and perform a puppet show.
  • Make a collage about your book.
  • Pretend you are a newscaster from the local news.
  • Write a news article on the book; answer Who?  What?  When?  Where?  How?  Why?  Pretend you are a newscaster and give us the information in a live news broadcast.
  • Create a comic strip.

Valentine’s Cards and Party Info-REMINDER

520f38069c50cb1ca889c58bdc77765fWe will have a short party that day, February 14th. More details will be provided as we get closers. Valentine boxes are not required but can be brought. They need to be made at home not at school. They can be very simple or elaborate it is up to you. If they don’t have a box to put cards into, I will provide them with a bag that day. Stores are now stocked and ready for Valentine’s Day.  To help you properly prepare for our class celebrations, here are the Quest guidelines in regards to Valentine’s:

“Per Quest’s wellness policy, all food in the classroom must be pre-approved. Furthermore, parental permission is also required for students to consume food during class parties. Due to this policy—as in years past—student Valentines cannot contain edible items. Suggestions for nonfood Valentines include pencils, erasers, bubbles, stickers, etc. Please note that such items, including Valentine cards, are in no way required.”

We have 27 students in our class. Please have your child sign their name and not address the cards to anyone specific. That way they can be passed out quickly. Please have them bring enough for everyone in our class. Again, passing out cards in optional.
