OPTIONAL-Book Reports

I WOULD ENJOY HAVING THEM SHARE THEIR BOOK WITH US. THIS IS AN OPTIONAL ACTIVITY. October 24 BOOK REPORTS BEING PRESENTED.
Screen Shot 2019-09-09 at 4.55.01 PM

This is a great way to make sure you are ready at home. Once per quarter, you WILL BE ABLE present a book report to the class. You do not have to turn in a written report, you will only do a presentation. Each of these reports will be on a book you have read during the quarter. YOU MUST FINISH THE BOOK IN ORDER TO PRESENT IT TO THE CLASS.

The book you choose to read should be appropriate for your reading level and a minimum of 150 pages in length (unless approved by Mrs. Clark). The book cannot be one you have read before or one we have read in class. We will do sign-ups for when you will present your book report. All presentations should be 3-5 minutes long. Either on October 24 or 25th.

The book reports will be a specific genre:
First Quarter: Choose Fantasy or Mystery
Second Quarter: Choose Historical Fiction or Non-Fiction
Third Quarter: Choose Novel or Graphic Novel
Fourth Quarter: Biography or Autobiography

PRESENTED ON October 24th.

Present your book to the class:

  • All presentations must be 3-5 minutes.
  • Share a brief summary of your book. I love using Google Slides for this.
  • Tell us enough to get us interested, but not so much that it ruins the ending.
  • Give the book a rating of 1-5 stars, depending on how well you liked it. The more you liked it, the more stars you will give. Explain to the class why you rated it the way you did.
  • Be prepared and use good presenting skills (speak loudly).
  • Use one of the Creative Ideas below, or get approval from Mrs. Clark if you have an original idea. After the first quarter, do not use an idea you have used before.

Creative Ideas :

  • Puppet Pals or post on SeeSaw.
  • Google Slide Show
  • Write a TV or radio commercial advertising the book.
Prepare a skit about your book and perform it for the class.
  • Design a book jacket (different from the one it already has) illustrating your three favorite scenes. Include a summary on the inside cover.
  • Build a diorama (in a box) of your favorite scene or setting.
  • Design a map of the area where the story takes place. Make sure to include a scale and legend.
  • Make an illustrated time line for a historical book.
  • Design a vacation or informational pamphlet about a location in the book.
  • Design a mobile, using pictures of characters or places in the story.
  • Pretend you are a book critic for a local newspaper or TV station and share your review of the book.
  • Dress up like a character in the book and describe the role that character plays in the book.
  • Compose a song about your book, an event in the book, or one of the characters and sing or play it for the class.
  • Prepare and perform a puppet show.
  • Make a collage about your book.
  • Pretend you are a newscaster from the local news.
  • Write a news article on the book; answer Who?  What?  When?  Where?  How?  Why?  Pretend you are a newscaster and give us the information in a live news broadcast.
  • Create a comic strip.

Also, in my class, kids don’t need to bring their backpacks everyday. I only want them brought on Fridays. That is the day I send home stuff/flier/papers/etc. They can bring one if they need to have their lunches in it-or they could just bring their lunch box instead. They may bring one to hold their balls/games for recesses.

First Week Back!!!

It has been a busy week! I am enjoying getting to know each of your kiddos! Please send me a message on BLOOMZ if there is anything you need me to clarify about a BLOG post or papers sent home. Anything-don’t hesitate!

A few things:
  • Homework begins next week.
  • Make sure your child has their own headphones/earbuds to use with our computers.
  • They are taking their beginning of year diagnostic over the next few days. They need to have a “good” breakfast. It is a good time to get them to bed earlier too. I have a handful of tired kids.
I sent home a “PICTURE  DAY” flyer today. Picture Day is Thur, August 29th. STUDENTS WILL NEED TO WEAR THEIR UNIFORMS. This pic will be used for their ID badge and the school’s yearbook. IMG_0857THANKS SO MUCH!
