Reminder….Bring a book tomorrow and two addresses

You need two books for our class.  One book is for the classroom, the other one is for your homework.

Tomorrow all students should have a chapter book to read in class.  This book will stay in the classroom.  This can be any type of book, fiction or non-fiction.  I have them pull out their books when they get done with work earlier than other classmates. They will read them in short sittings (5-7 min).  They will not be writing any reports about this book.  This is purely to keep them busy until we move to our next task.  So the book can be comics if they would like, but I would prefer something more enlightening if possible. We do have a small classroom library they can take from as well.  Our Quest library day will be Mondays at 11:00 and will begin Sept. 11.  Also, they can visit the Weber County Library.  If they have their own library card and bring it into class and show me, I will give them a Rams Reward (classroom money).

They will need another book at home to read for homework (20 min reads).  This book is going to be used for their book reports. More about this book report will be posted in their homework.

One of students went to watch the Eclipse in Idaho.  She shared with us several pictures.  Here are some of them.  Ask your student to tell you more about these pictures and her presentation.

LASTLY, we are writing a “friendly letter”.  The student needs to bring their own mailing address and a mailing address of someone they plan to mail the letter to.

First week is behind us

I hope you’re adjusting to sending your kiddos off to school. I am having so much fun getting to know each of them. We have been learning policy and procedures, line movement, and new schedules. We have played some “get to know you” games and started some classroom work.

Please be patient with our  parking lot drop off and pickup. It will get better. The best things to do is to stagger your pick up times. It is better to be one of the last ones to pick up. By then, all of the commotion has died down, and it is very smooth.

No homework yet. If you would like them to start on something, you can have them read for 20 minutes. Any  book they would like, but please make it a chapter book. This is totally optional and up to you. In a few weeks, homework will be assigned after they know how to use Google Classroom. Then, it will be about 40 minutes each night (20 minutes of that is reading).

Today, we went through our classroom supplies. Some of them wrote down things they were missing. Please  ask them about their sticky notes. These supplies are donations, so just let me know if you would prefer that they were supplied by the school.

Monday is not a dress down day. Please send them here in their uniforms. They will be getting their school ID pictures done that day. They took home an order form if you would like to buy any of pictures. Also, they have some directions regarding SIS in their bags.

MONDAY is our Eclipse!!! We have glasses for them to look through. The school is providing these. If they  have some from home that they can bring, that would be awesome. We are scheduled to use the glasses at 11:30…SO WE WILL SEE THE COOLEST PART!!! They watched a video about the Eclipse yesterday….ask them about it.

I am hopeful you are subscribed to the BLOG by now. I haven’t heard about any problems since I changed some things.

Lastly, THANKS SO MUCH FOR ALL OF THE CLASSROOM SUPPLIES!!! It helps me out so so so much!!!

Thanks again,
Mrs. Clark
