A plea from Mrs. Zimm

Parents,
I know there are times when checking your student out early is necessary.  It’s part of life and it happens.  However, I hesitated to write about this on Friday after having eight students check out early.  That is about one-third of our entire class.  It was extreme and I was left with a pile of unfinished work to somehow get students caught up on this week.
This is why this is a problem.  Every day, I have 3-4 students who check out early.  If this is an occasional thing, your student will be able to stay caught up.  But if your student is consistently checked out early each day, the work load piles up and there is no way for me to keep them caught up.
I am writing this as a plea to you as parents.  Please help your child to be successful by allowing them to stay the full day at school.  I know some parents have work schedules that occasionally require an early pick up.  There are also appointments and other reasons for an early check out.  But please, please parents, help me out with this.  I do teach until the end of the day and it is difficult to teach through a stream of students checking out at the end of the day.  As a teacher, I am feeling overwhelmed by this problem.  And it is not fair to the rest of the class for me to spend so much time keeping these students caught up.
My hope is that this post will help bring awareness to the problem. If it is possible for them to be in class, please allow that to happen.
FYI….If the weather is nice and we are able to make  it, the last fifteen minutes of our Friday is spent out at recess.  This is because that falls during our afternoon recess time.
Thanks for your cooperation,
Mrs. Zimm
