Halloween Party!

Hello!
Halloween is right around the corner and I have one of our amazing parents that will be heading that up.  We had so many parents willing to help out that we will have a parent over each party instead of one parent doing all three parties.  If you are still wanting to help out with our Halloween party, please email me giving me permission to give your contact info to the parent over the party.  Please also include your preferred point of contact.  The party will be on Halloween which will also be a short day.
Thanks for all you do!

Brrrr! It’s chilly!

Please send your child to school with the proper attire for the weather.  We’ve had some students with just a light sweater.  We do still go out for recess on these days to get our wiggles out.  You can also send them with hats and gloves if you wish.  Anything like that can be stored in their coat pocket.  It was pretty chilly today and just my light jacket was not enough.  I’ll be bundling up a little more tomorrow!  🙂

Fundraiser Dress Down on Friday!

On Friday, we are having a special dress down day to raise money or cans for our annual food drive.  Students may bring  $2 or 5 cans of food with them on Friday.  We are competing with other schools in the area to collect cans or raise the most money.  Students may only dress down if they are participating and bring their donation with them on Friday.

Thank you!

Parents,
Thank you so much!  Most of the students were able to finish their reports this afternoon!  We did not have a single student leave early.  Of course, I know that every day cannot be like this, but thank you!  We were able to get so much done!  I appreciate it so much!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Zimm

A plea from Mrs. Zimm

Parents,
I know there are times when checking your student out early is necessary.  It’s part of life and it happens.  However, I hesitated to write about this on Friday after having eight students check out early.  That is about one-third of our entire class.  It was extreme and I was left with a pile of unfinished work to somehow get students caught up on this week.
This is why this is a problem.  Every day, I have 3-4 students who check out early.  If this is an occasional thing, your student will be able to stay caught up.  But if your student is consistently checked out early each day, the work load piles up and there is no way for me to keep them caught up.
I am writing this as a plea to you as parents.  Please help your child to be successful by allowing them to stay the full day at school.  I know some parents have work schedules that occasionally require an early pick up.  There are also appointments and other reasons for an early check out.  But please, please parents, help me out with this.  I do teach until the end of the day and it is difficult to teach through a stream of students checking out at the end of the day.  As a teacher, I am feeling overwhelmed by this problem.  And it is not fair to the rest of the class for me to spend so much time keeping these students caught up.
My hope is that this post will help bring awareness to the problem. If it is possible for them to be in class, please allow that to happen.
FYI….If the weather is nice and we are able to make  it, the last fifteen minutes of our Friday is spent out at recess.  This is because that falls during our afternoon recess time.
Thanks for your cooperation,
Mrs. Zimm

No math homework this week!

Parents,
There will be no math homework this week.  This is a review week called math in action.  The students are performing tasks that require the use of the skills acquired in this first unit.

October Reading Log

Parents,
I need to apologize.  October’s reading log will be sent home tomorrow.  I told the kiddos that they can read tonight and then color two candy corns tomorrow.
There is a math worksheet that was sent home today.  We are doing two-step word problems.  They need to show both steps.
Thanks,
Mrs. Zimm
