Parents,
One of our amazing parent volunteers will be unable to come in for the next few months, probably until the end of April.  We need someone who is willing to come in and work with the kiddos on Wednesday morning from 8:30-9:30am.  You will be playing a reading game with individual students.  We also need a parent who can help with the class store on Fridays from 12:30 until around 1:15 or 1:30.  Please let me know if you are interested and available.  These volunteers benefit the students so much!

Don’t forget to check homework folders for additional homework that comes home.  All homework is due my Monday of the next week.

We are beginning our new science unit on Force and Motion.  We are also starting our math chapter on Money.  If you have change at home, please allow your child to sort it and count it to become more familiar with the coins.  Here is the link to a video if your child is struggling with understanding the value of the coins:

Your child will be coming home with their math workbook.  Please do not feel alarmed if it is mostly unused.  The math program provided is great, but we have tweaked it to be more efficient and I use worksheets that I have created specifically for the standards we are assessing.  This book is for them to do what they please with and can be a great tool to continue working on skills over the summer.

Friday, January 26th is a dollar dress down day!

Our classroom is running low on copy paper.  If you would like to donate copy paper to the classroom, you may bring it by or send it with your student.

Thank you for all your support!  We have plenty of cardboard now!  You have been so great to bring in your donations!  I’ve had a few parents ask if we are in need of anything in our classroom, so I thought I would send this to everyone.  The only thing we are really running low on is copy paper.  And we are always willing to take donations for the school store.  Thank you all for everything you do!

Friday was a bit of an off day as I had to go home sick.  We had an unusual amount of sick teachers and students recently.  We try our best in the classroom to keep the germs at bay, but we could use your help.  If your child is still feeling under the weather, please keep them home.  I appreciate having students there every day, but the most important thing is everyone’s health.  If they are miserable, let them rest.  We will get them caught up when they return.  

On a more fun note….our Valentine’s Party is just around the corner!!  We’ve had some parents emailing asking if they can help.  I will pass your information on to our room parent.  If anyone else is interested in helping out with our Valentine’s Day party, please email me at bzimmerman@questac.org with your name and contact information. 🙂

We are hoping to get some help with an issue we are having at the school regarding missing name badges. As stated in our Handbook, “Everyone is required to wear their name badge to attend class (the name badge must be that of the current school year). Please reinforce having name badges as they create a safer environment at the school. To replace a lost name badge, your child will need to pay $5.00 for a new one. A student without a name badge will be referred to the office to call home. Parents/Guardians will be expected to bring their child’s name badge or pay $5.00 for a replacement. Only then will students be allowed to return to class.” Elementary students are to leave their name badges in their classrooms at the end of the day. Jr. High students are encouraged to leave their name badges in their lockers before leaving. To ensure your child receives a full day’s worth of learning in the classroom, please make sure their name badge is left at school and returned the following day if accidentally taken home. Please note, that you have this week as a grace period to either find your child’s lost name badge or replace it for $5.00. Starting Tuesday, January 16 (one week from today), students who do not have name badges will not be attending class until a new one is purchased or their old one is returned. If parents are working when their children call, they are more than welcome to either pay for a badge using a credit card over the phone or to pay online.

We are studying the continents and oceans this month.  Here is a video that can help them study.  We will also be watching this more in class.  These will be on the test.
