I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving break!  I am so excited to see all of the students back at school tomorrow! We have already had such a wonderful year, and I am looking forward to a fun and jam-packed three weeks before our next break! Please check below for important dates and information on what we are learning this week.

MATH – This week we will working on our division and multiplication facts.  Please make sure that you are practicing the multiplication facts with your child at home.

ELA: This week we will be working on Unit 3 Week 1 in our Wonders program. Below is an outline of what we are learning in class. Our emphasis will be on identifying the main/central idea of and key details.

Week of November 13th

We only have one more week until Thanksgiving, and I am excited for it to be a great one! We will be doing some fun Kindness activities this week in honor of World Kindness Day on November 13th.

ELA: This week we will be working on Unit 2 Week 5 in our Wonders program. Below is an outline of what we are learning in class. Our emphasis will be on comprehending figurative language to understand poetry.

CLASS BOOK

I am looking forward to publishing our class book! At Parent-Teacher Conferences I passed out the form to purchase the book if you are interested. I do need to collect the form from EVERY parent regardless of purchasing the book or not! These forms are due back to me by NOV 4th. Thank you for your help and support getting all of these back.

THIS WEEK

We are so excited for a fun week! I am looking forward to our Halloween Party tomorrow. Please remember that we will be having sugar cookies at the party!

PARADE DETAILS

We will be having our annual Halloween Parade starting at 9:00am. For those who would like to watch the parade, please plan on bringing camping chairs or blankets to sit along the outside of either Q1 or Q2. 

Please remember and follow our school’s costume guidelines:

  • Costumes should be modest and without blood and gore
  • Face paint and masks are allowed, however masks will only be worn when directed by the teacher
  • Weapons or anything that depicts violence is not allowed

SPIRIT WEEK

MATH

This week we will move to lesson 9. We will use grouping to make multiplication easier to solve and then use place value to multiply. Please make sure that you are practicing the multiplication facts with your child at home.

CLASS BOOK:

The students have been working very hard to write a book about kindness! Our book about kindness is compiled of two short stories that the students have worked together to write! Each student wrote one page and illustrated one picture.

I will get one copy of this book to read as a whole class, but if you would like to purchase a copy for your child to have please click here. When you get to the website, please click pre-order and enter our code: 84655133. Please verify that is says “Quest Academy: Courtney Lannoch” before paying.

In order for the books to come, we do need EVERY parent to send back the purchase form (even if you did not purchase one). Thank you for your help getting these forms back by November 5th! I will give all parents a purchase form at Parent Teacher Conferences, and we should expect to get the books mid-December. Feel free to reach out with any questions!

Halloween Party:

Thank you to the parents who have volunteered! We are going to have a blast! The students will partake in many fun activities and have a sugar cookie as a treat.

I hope that everyone had a relaxing and fun Fall Break. I cannot believe that we are already halfway through October!

Halloween Party – I am looking for a few more volunteers who can help us with our Halloween Party. I have 3 parents already, and I am hoping for a couple more. Please contact me and let know if you can help! Our party time will be from 10:00ish-11:20. If you can help, please send me an email.

Multiplication: We are working on all of our multiplication facts, and I have been encouraging the students to practice these at home. For many students, learning their facts can take quite some time, so any practice at home is wonderful! Flashcards also work perfectly and can be found as a free printable online.

MATH: This week we are working on lesson 7. Below is the family letter explaining how I teach this lesson and it includes an activity that helps with this skill. If you would like to give your child extra practice with multiplication, this activity would be an excellent option to use.

Fall break is this week from Wednesday – Friday! The students have been working very hard, and I am very proud of what they have accomplished. I hope everyone enjoys their time off.

Halloween Party: I have had a few parent’s volunteer, and I am looking for about 4 more people that would be interested in helping out during our Halloween party from 10 AM – 11: 30 AM. Feel free to email me if you would like to help!

I can’t believe that it is already October! We have been having so much fun as a class, but the time has sure gone by quickly.

Parent teacher conferences are quickly approaching. They are Wednesday, October 25th and Thursday the 26th. I am excited to meet with you to talk about your student’s growth and goals. Please see my last post for more information, or sign up for your time here.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

We are a little less than one month away from Parent-Teacher Conferences! This is a wonderful opportunity for us to meet about your child to talk about their amazing success and anything we can do together to make your student’s 3rd grade year amazing. I am looking forward to these conferences on October 25th-27th.

I have attached the sign-up link below. If you already know what date/time you would like, you are welcome to sign-up now, because many of the times will fill up. I will also send the sign-ups in an email as the conferences approach. When you sign-up, please make sure to leave your child’s name in the comment so that I can have all their materials ready to show you at their conference!

Week of September 25th

MATH: We will start lesson 5 which really kicks off our multiplication unit. We will be learning how to multiply by 0s, 1s, 2s, 5s, and 10s. Below is the family letter explaining how I teach this lesson and it includes an activity that helps with this skill. If you would like to give your child extra practice with multiplication, this activity would be an excellent option to use.

ELA: This week we are taking the Unit 1 Assessment as a class. Please make sure your student is in class each day to take the assessment with us! Since this is our first unit test of the year we will take it together and use it as a chance to learn some test taking strategies as well as review all we have learned so far.
