Mission K-9 Rescue Service Project

This year our 1st grade students have been donating coins for Mission K9 Rescue. We will be presenting their donation during our Patriotic Program on Wednesday, May 17th. Donations are still being collected. Let’s finish strong!

As a reminder here is our post from November about this service project:

mission-k9-rescueWe attended a special Veteran’s Day Assembly with the Crismer’s and their war dog Mazzie from Mission K-9 Rescue. We learned about the sacrifices many dogs are making to protect the lives of our soldiers.  Unfortunately, these dogs are left behind after their work is done. Mission K-9 Rescue is striving to
Rescue, Reunite, Re-Home, Rehabilitate and Repair any retired working dog that has served mankind in some capacity.

This year for one of our service learning projects we will be collecting coins to donate to Mission K-9 Rescue.

As a First Grade we have been learning that everyone can serve and help others through stories such as “The Lion and the Mouse”. Though our children may be young, they too can make an important difference and our small contributions of a coin here and a few coins there will truly add up to something great.

We are also learning about financial literacy principles; for example, we are learning about the principle of saving and we are learning that, to earn money, one must work.  We are encouraging our students to do extra jobs at home for family or friends to earn coins to add to our Mission K-9 Rescue fund.

Water Bottles Wanted

Image result for water bottle free clip artWith the return of warmer weather, our students need to be drinking more water to keep hydrated. Please sent your student with a LABELED, easy to open open flip top (preferred) water bottle to keep in their cubby. This will help eliminate the constant need to go down the hall for a drink of water, in addition to allowing them the convenience of having water easily available while playing outside.

Quest Cinco De Mayo Carnival Reminder

http://qacblogs.org/megan.dunmeyer/files/2017/04/cinco-de-mayo-flyer-page-001.jpg
We still need volunteers for our Cinco De Mayo carnival on Friday. If you are able to help, please click the link below to go to our volunteer sign-up. All volunteers will receive either a $5 bounce house wristband or $5 off a combo pass.

Also, we are allowing anyone aged 6th grade and up (who is willing to be responsible and can stay at their station the whole shift)  to volunteer.  So, have your teens grab a buddy and volunteer for a couple hours, or bring some older children or family members and save some money at the carnival.

Remember, ticket prices go up if purchased at the carnival, so get your tickets now. We would like to have a pretty good idea of how much food we need to order by Wednesday, so if you are able to order by then, please do.

Thank you!
