Home Bear

ALL HOMEWORK IS DUE FRIDAY MAY  6TH!

***In May we will be doing testing and major comprehensive reviews on all concepts taught in both Math, Reading and Spelling! Please CONTINUE TO WORK HARD WITH YOUR STUDENT  encouraging them to be productive at home and in school:)

For this weeks homework, there are 2 required components:
Please make sure all components are together and complete for
credit.
1. Math:  NEW Addition and Subtraction Timings AND Math Strategy Timings
2. Reading (20-30 minutes every day!) Record on MAY Book It Calendar

1-Math Homework:
****Even though our homework has changed slightly as there won’t be any My Math worksheets coming home, I have added a couple NEW things in order to help your student prepare for upcoming tests in math. In addition to  the current math strategy timings your students have been doing, I am also requiring they NOW do addition and subtraction timings.

***NEW ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION TIMINGS:
  • Complete a 2 minute timing every night for both addition and subtraction facts. Please have your child do EVERY problem in a row, not skipping any. Then draw a line where they end and they will start there the next day. PLEASE CHECK FOR ACCURACY (an answer sheet is included).  Your child should get in about 3 or 4 timings each side. If you have questions let me know. Click below to print timings worksheets (I know the bottom row got cut off – please ignore!):
  • CLICK HERE for SUBTRACTION Timings Sheet
  • CLICK HERE for ADDITION Timings Sheet
MATH STRATEGY WEEKLY TIMINGS*

I love reading!!!!!
This year I made decision to invest in the first 4 sets (times 5 for each color)  of Reading for all Learners Books. It was a very costly decision but well worth it!!! In order to take inventory and ensure I get all of my Reading for All Learners Books  back before the end of the year,  I need to discontinue to sending them home after Friday May 13th. I am asking all parents to PLEASE take extra special care of them and if under your care any books have been lost or damaged to help with replacement costs. They run about about $2.50 each.

2- Reading 20 minutes or more per day
RECORD YOUR READING EVERY DAY YOU READ ON YOUR  “BOOK IT”  READING LOG located in your green folder.

***There are SEVERAL SOURCES for reading: “Reading for all Learners” also known as”Baggy books” SENT HOME FROM SCHOOL, books from HOME LIBRARIES  or the PUBLIC LIBRARY  and our ON LINE READING program Raz-Kids Our class Raz-Kids login is: dvella0 (that’s a zero)
***CHECK OUT THIS SITE FOR BOOK ON LINE READ BY FAMOUS PEOPLE It’s fantastic!!! http://www.storylineonline.net/

***REMEMBER that in order for your student to pass off a “Baggy Book”, look for 90% Accuracy with the ability to Re-tell details about what they have read.
Don’t forget reading fluency and comprehension are partners! You don’t want one without the other!!!! Understanding what is being read is just as important as being a fluent reader but if your student is taking a long time to  decode words they forget what they are reading they need to work on fluency!!! IT JUST TAKE LOTS AND LOTS OF PRACTICE…
PLEASE use these Re-Tell Ropes whenever you are reading with your student checking for understanding as THIS WILL ALSO HELP THEM PREPARE FOR OUR FINAL DIBELS TEST COMPREHENSION PIECE.

Lunchroom Expectations

We had a SAD SAD DAY in the lunch room today!!! … I was told of students not only getting up out of their seats when they are to remain seated until lunch time is finished (unless they need something at which time they need to raise their hand), but that they were also throwing food.  Sadly, our Lunchroom staff had to move some of the offenders to other tables. I would really appreciate it if you would visit with your student about what your expectations are as will I.  Thanks so much for your help with this matter.
