Homework for January 11th-14th

ALL MATH HOMEWORK IS DUE THURSDAY JANUARY 14TH SINCE THERE ISN’T SCHOOL ON THE 15TH. THE 14TH IS ALSO THE END OF THE TERM WHICH MEANS…. I WILL NO LONGER ACCEPT ANY PAST DUE HOMEWORK AFTER THURSDAY FOR THE QUARTER.

Math Homework:
Monday January 11th Lesson 6 Use Related facts to Add and Subtract
Tuesday January 12th Lesson 7 Fact Families
Wednesday January 13 Lesson 8 Missing Addends
*Complete every other problem (alternate between evens and odds) on the worksheets that will be coming home in the blue folder on Monday.  Please check your child’s work for ACCURACY.

THE FOLLOWING HOMEWORK IS DUE FRIDAY, JANUARY 22.  DUE TO THE SHORTER WEEKS WE WILL BE WORKING ON THE SAME SPELLING WORDS FOR TWO WEEKS.  (Only complete one weekly homework form for these two weeks.)

RECORD YOUR READING EVERY DAY YOU READ ON YOUR  “BOOK IT”  READING LOG located in your green folder.

There are several sources for reading: “Reading for all Learners” also known as”Baggy books” from school, books from home or the public library and our online reading program Raz-Kids.  Our class Raz-Kids login is: dvella0 (that’s a zero)

***REMEMBER that in order for your student to pass off a “Baggy Book”, they must have fewer than 2 mistakes per book or 3 per chapter. Please be sure to sign the “Baggy Book” log when your student has successfully maser the book.

Important Diversity Quilt Reminder

Diversity Quilt Square Due Tomorrow

Diversity Quilt

  1. Use the colored square that was sent home the this week for the assignment.  Use crayons, markers, pens, or colored pencils to  create an image that represents your family.  This could include any of the following:
  • Something you celebrate together
  • Something you enjoy doing together
  • Something that represents your family
  • Flags from where your family is from
  • Family crest
  • Photographs of places visited
  • Words describing your family heritage
    2.  Be sure to write your name on the back of the square and  turn it in to our class (not to the library) on Friday, January 8th! 

*If you have lost or misplaced your diversity quilt square, please use a piece of colored paper (any color) that is exactly 5-1/2″ by 4″ and please decorate it horizontally. Thank you!

Math Homework
Monday January 4th Lesson 1 Subtraction Strategies Count Back 1,2, or 3
Tuesday January 5th Lesson 2 Use a Number Line to Subtract
Wednesday January 6th Lesson 3 Use Doubles to Subrtact
Thursday January 7th Problem Solving Strategy: Write a number Sentence

*Complete every other problem (alternate between evens and odds) on the worksheets that will be coming home in the green folder on Monday.  Please check your child’s work for ACCURACY.
*Practice your math facts (addition and subtraction) regularly by utilizing these NEW Addition Strategies Flash Cards.

I suggest making a copy of these flash cards on card stock so they are a little more durable. We will be using them in class the rest of the year. Knowing these math facts will help your child with ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION facts as they are starting to grasp ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION FACT FAMILIES. It is so fun to see the kids faces LIGHT UP WITH RELIEF when they finally understand math facts and strategies for solving math problems.

Library Day and Library Diversity Quilt

MONDAY IS LIBRARY!!!! If your student has any  library books at home, please make sure they are packed up and put in their backpacks ready to go tonight. If your student has an outstanding book checked out they are not allowed to check out a book. This makes for such a SAD LIBRARY DAY tomorrow so you.

We hope you all had a wonderful day today, and that Santa brought you all something special. We have been thinking about you and wanted you to know that we wish you a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY SAFE NEW YEAR. See you all on bright and early on Monday January 4th. I hope you are reading lots of books in your spare time and practicing your addition facts so you’ll be read for all the wonderful things (ok and some tests) Mrs. Hill and I have planned for you. WE LOVE YOUR SUPER SMART AWESOME BRAINS!!!

YEA WE ARE HAVING A PJ DAY TOMORROW. ALL THE KIDS ARE SO EXCITED TO WEAR THEIR PJ’S AND RIDE THE POLAR EXPRESS TO THE NORTH POLE. Boarding will begin at 11:45 AM with an approximate return time of 2:30  PM. There are bound to be adventures galore so please plan accordingly.
Friday the adventures continue with a FREE DRESS DOWN DAY!!!!! and….the 1st grade WINTER PARTY.  ACTIVITIES BEGIN AT 11:30 AND GO UNTIL 12:50.
