To Party or Not to Party That is the Question?

WOW it’s hard to believe that in a matter of  3 short days our Fall/Halloween Celebration will be taking place.
IN ORDER FOR YOUR STUDENT TO PARTICIPATE IN ALL THE  FUN ACTIVITIES, I HAVE TO HAVE THE PARENT PERMISSION SLIP SIGNED NO LATER THAN THURSDAY.
So far I have only received permission from the following parents for their student’s participation:
  1. Lexie
  2. Ryker
  3. Oaklee
  4. Adaliah
  5. Rusty
  6. Jason
  7. Nash
  8. McKylie
  9. Noah
  10. Mckenzie
  11. Ryllie
  12. Tyce
Please take a few minutes to fill out the permission slip which was posted  last week. This will ensure that your student will be able to participate in all the planned activities.

On a side note…We are hoping that parents feel impressed to donate $1-$2 dollars  helping to defray costs we as teachers and parent volunteers have incurred. Our hope is that ALL students will have a memorable experience Friday. If you haven’t paid anything, and wish too, please visit the office as they are prepared to take any and all payments.

I have had several parents volunteer to help in the classroom as well as with parties. Whether you signed up or not, you are more than welcome to help Friday if you have the time. Our parade is scheduled to start at 9 and might last as long as 10. We need to set up the classroom while the kids are at recess and having lunch (1o:30-11:30). If you would like to help, I have some time to meet tomorrow afternoon from 3:30 to 4:15. Please feel free to shoot me an email and or send me a text letting me know what your thoughts and availability are, and if you are able to help Friday.

Homework for October 19th-22nd

Image result for free homework clip work

Math lessons this week:
Monday October 19th Lesson 12: Numbers to 120
Tuesday October 20th Lesson 13: Count to 120
Wednesday October 21st Lesson 14: Read and Write Numbers to 120
Thursday we will be reviewing and preparing for our Chapter 5 test that will be given next Monday the 26th.
Homework will be due Thursday the 22nd.  Do every other problem evens or odds.
This is the end of the quarter so all missing work must be turned in by then for credit.

This has been a tough chapter for all the 1st grade classes. There are so many ways to help your student even if they struggle. Make sure they aren’t tired when doing homework, that they aren’t hungry. Set up a routine that they are comfortable with, Sometimes short mini homework sessions are better than long ones especially when they are struggling.  Be creative when practicing concepts and doing homework…make what they are doing support real life situations. Talk about when  and why they need to understand what they are learning and how you use it in your life for example when buying things at the store, or when figuring out candy pieces for class parties LOL.
Have your student practice writing numbers everyday. If students start to practice writing numbers now, it will be so easy for them to write to 120 by the end of the year. They feel so proud and confident when they master even the smallest tasks like writing 0-20 correctly!!!

I noticed that another 1st grade class had the High Frequency words list by 5 words not 6. I have adopted their list schedule as it makes more sense and fits our schedule and the kids opportunity for practice in class. Please have your student practice reading and writing them nightly along with the sentence.

I am also including a Fluency aspect that needs to be done daily and will count for High Frequency Homework
Timed fluency practice worth 20 points. Click here:

The Fluency practice sheet needs to be turned in Thursday along with the Math homework.

Stem Information and Student’s Question of the Week

Pumpkin clip art

Wow it’s going to be a busy couple weeks…Hang on to your broomsticks and don’t let the spooks scare you off!

As our school prepares to become STEM certified there are certain requirements that must be met. You and your student will play a huge part in the process. Wednesday I showed the kiddos our blog and let them know that they will need to post replies to a post that we’ll be starting this week. It will be the “Question of the Week.” Please help you student reply to each weekly posted question. It will be so fun for them to post their comments and see what their friends are saying as well.

Since we will be reading and talking a lot about “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” over then next month or so and with Halloween coming up the perfect question for this week will be ….”What is your favorite Candy?”
PLEASE!!!! Help your student reply to this question
