Classroom Policies:

Absences

Student work will be left on top of their desk with a form indicating what they missed while they were absent. It will be the student’s responsibility to meet with me to go over material and questions on the work. Class work missed is to be completed as homework and turned in by the date specified. The number of days your student has to make up absent work is equal to the number of days he or she has missed. If you plan to pick up your student’s work at the end of the day, please notify the office by 9 a.m. to give me time to get the assignments put together before the end of the day.

Homework

Homework will be accessed and submitted through the student’s Google Classroom account.  The link is located on my blog under the bookmarks section, to your right.
Click on Google Classroom
Student email: firstname.lastname@qackids.org   (example: jaime.jaques@qackids.org)
Password: students school computer password + rams.  (example: jj192rams)

Students will edit the document and then turn it in by the due date, listed on the homework.  They will only be able to turn in the assignment once, so they need to not click the turn in button until after all of the work has been typed in and answered.

READING
Each quarter students will be required to read a +250 page book.  We will complete a book report in class related to the book the student has read.  Students will be required to write chapter summaries as they are reading the book.  The document will be available in the Google Classroom. this document will help them keep track of specific information from their book.  This document will be turned in at the end of each quarter, but will need to be completed as homework.

MATH

Any unfinished classroom math work, will need to be finished at home.  There is a designated place in the classroom that will list the math pages that need to be completed, from their math notebooks.

*If you do not have internet access please send a note to school so that I am aware that your child cannot complete the Google Forms. I will provide he or she with a copy of the Quarterly Book Report Journal, to complete at home.

Birthdays

Administration has asked that students not bring in any food-type treats. Please do not feel “obligated” to have your student bring in anything for their birthday. Your child’s birthday will still be acknowledged. To avoid any hurt feelings, please mail birthday invitations to classmates’ homes. Each child’s birthday will be celebrated in class by the teacher! Students with summer birthdays will be celebrated on their Half-Birthday!

Blog – Classroom Information

http://qacblogs.org/jaime.jaques/

This is where you can keep on top of what is happening in the classroom.  You can access my blog from the Quest Academy website, under Faculty. Parents will be required to “follow” my blog this year to receive up to date emails and notices about classroom happenings. Also, if you have any questions, feel free to email or call me at the school.

Classroom Discipline

Students will be required to maintain a respectful presence in the classroom at all times. I believe that students achieve more when they are in a positive and safe learning environment. I will be using Class Cash as a reward for student’s behavior.  Students will be able to spend their Class Cash during our class store on the last Friday of each month.  My primary focus is to point out and reward the good things that are happening in our classroom! There may be times that a Class Cash may be taken away for negative behavior, but I try to only use this as a last resort. Please follow through at home with both the good and the bad so that we can be working as a team to help our students be the best they can be!

Tests

Tests are used as a gauge of my teaching as well as student learning. Tests are typically given at the end of each unit in math, science, reading, and spelling.  Please make sure your students are reviewing their spelling words nightly!

Grading Program

Grades will be updated on a weekly basis. You can view your student’s grades, as well as missing assignments on the SIS program located through the school’s website under the “parent” tab.  Be sure to check your student’s progress. You can obtain a username and password during back to school night, or anytime, from the front office. I usually update the grade book throughout the week so Friday will be the best day to check your student’s grades.

The grading system will be new this year.  Your student’s grades will be based on whether or not they understand the objective that was taught.  Student’s will be given multiple opportunities to prove their understanding of a given subject.  There will also be a specific grade for classroom work.  This will let you know whether or not your student is completing their work in class, or doing it accurately.  Students are able to correct any classroom work for a better score.  Missed work that is circled in red ink, can be corrected.

Grading Policy

Students will be graded in each subject, based on total points. I will follow the Quest Academy

                                           Elementary Grading Scale

4                100%-90%The student demonstrates mastery of the standard (can apply and

                  teach).
