Zoo Essentials

Our Hogle Zoo Field Trip is nearly here, TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 18th.  Here are a few things to know before we go:

1-  We are still accepting field trips donations at the Q1 office, suggested donation $18.00 for school year.  We greatly appreciate anything that you can donate for our trip.  Thank you for your generosity!  

2- Wear school uniform with RED shirt, sunscreen and good walking shoes! Please dress for the weather.

3- Bring a cold sack lunch from home in a disposable bag with your child’s name. (Unless you pre-ordered a school sack lunch).

4- Be on time. Arrive at school by 8:30am.  Bus departs at 8:45am.  We will leave the zoo around 1:00-1:15pm, returning to Quest around 2:00 or 2:30pm.

5- Parent chaperones: Please bring a backpack or bag to carry the lunches of the students in your group.  And a lunch for yourself.  We are planning on all the parents that requested to come on our online permission form.  If your status has changed, please let us know ASAP.  Please be prepared to pay for yourself and any extra children you bring (2 and younger are free).  For those driving, plan on meeting us at the front of the zoo at 9:45am.  The zoo address is 2600 E. Sunnyside Avenue, Salt Lake, UT, 84108.  

Book Orders for this month will be due Sept. 28, 2018. Our class code is R4R8F. 

1- Math Homework:  ***Parents, please WRITE YOUR SIGNATURE on the math homework, indicating you did this activity with your child***

• A letter titled “Dear Family” will be sent home in your child’s blue take-home-folder on Monday.  It provides an activity to do together.  Please read the letter and invite your child to share what they know about the concept by doing the activity together.

*These are due on Friday.  When students return this letter with their name and a parent signature (indicating a parent read it and did the activity with their child), the student will be given 3 fuzzies.

• Optional: for extra math practice, play any of these Math Games and Activities

2- Daily Reading Fluency (available in the Blue Homework folders). Feel free to write a note if the reading passage is not a good fit for your student (too easy or too hard). Please consider both reading fluency and reading comprehension when requesting a more challenging passage. 
I chose these passages based off Dibels and understand that they might need some adjustments. Please just make a note once you’ve done the activities with your child and return it on Friday. 

3- Reading 20 minutes per day.  No need to submit minutes, but we strongly encourage you to make reading a priority. Reading comprehension strategy: Help your child identify key details (important parts in the story).

We have received confirmation that our Hogle Zoo Field Trip will be Tuesday, September 18th. 

Lunch:
There are school sack lunches available for field trips. School sack lunches contain an Uncrustable sandwich, applesauce or apple, carrots and shelf-stable chocolate or white milk. Orders MUST be submitted by Monday, September 10th. If you would like to order a sack lunch for our Hogle Zoo field trip, please indicate on the field trip permission form.

Starting this week our class will have PE every Tuesday and Thursday. Please make sure your child comes to school in appropriate shoes, thank you!
