Oct. 23rd-27th!!

I hope everyone had a great fall break.  I know that I did!! We have a few events that you need to be aware of.
  • Canned Food Drive – We start our canned food drive this week and it will continue on for the next two weeks.  Please bring in canned foods to go towards the food banks for the upcoming holidays. 
  • This week is Positive Me Week
    • Monday – Hats off to being drug free! (Hat Day)
    • Tuesday – Be unique and don’t follow the crowd! (Crazy Socks Day)
    • Wednesday – Be a hero and stand up to bullying! (Superhero/Team Jersey Day)
    • Thursday – Scare away negativity! (Crazy Hair Day)
    • Friday – Become the better you by reaching out to others! (5 Food Cans for a Dress Down Day)
  •  Our Halloween Parade and Party.  The parade will start around 9:00am on Halloween day and go until around 10:00.  Parents are welcome to go to the Q2 gym and watch the parade.  We will then have our class party from 10:00ish to 11:30.  I am still looking for parents to help out with this.  Please let me know ASAP.  I also need you to fill out a food permission form for your student.  The school requires us to have a food permission form from parents in order to allow you child to eat anything at school. Please click here to fill out the food permission form.
  • We do not have school on November 1st!  This is a Wednesday and a teacher work day.
  • Thursday, Nov. 9th, third grade will have their first field trip.  We will be going to Fremont High School to see their production for Cinderella.  I will be sending home the permission form on Monday.  We are asking for a $4.00 donation to cover the buses to get us to and from the play.  This money can be paid at the office or online.  I will post more information about this later this week.  Please check back for details. 
What’s Happening in Our Class this Week!!
  This week for spelling, we will be focusing on words that have silent consonants. There is a is a list of words under the homework tab is you would like to review with your child at home. 
  In math we are moving on to quadrilaterals. We will spend the next two weeks learning about the properties of quadrilaterals.
*****Coding Lab is on  Wednesday @ 2:00 
***Reminder that Library is every Thursday at 9:00.  Please remember to be bring your books back to change out.

Reading:
Please remember to read every night for at least 20 minutes.

Math:

Oct. 16th-18th!

Apple Witches!!! 
Thank you so much for the parents who came in and helped out with dressing our apple witches.  They look amazing!!  We will be creating a story this week about our witch. I will be sending the apple witches home on Wednesday so you can display them for Halloween. 
Halloween Party!!
 I am still looking for a few more people to help with our Halloween party.  We will have our party after the Halloween Parade from 10:00ish-11:30.  Please let me know ASAP if you can help out. 
 
What’s Happening in Our Class this Week!!
***Fall Break is this week!! We have a short day on Wednesday and no school on Thursday and Friday.
 We will not have spelling words this week, because it is a short week.   
  In math we are still working on subtraction and we’ll take our subtraction test on Wednesday.   
***We will not have library this week, so if your child wants a new book for fall break, she/he can bring it in to the library before school starts and get a new one. 

Reading:
Please remember to read every night for at least 20 minutes.

Math:
No MATH the week!!!

October 9th-13th!!

Apple Witches!!! 
Last week I sent home a letter and pattern describing how to make the dress, hat and gloves for our apple witches.  Please see the last post I put up if you need to see the letter or pattern again.  If you need me to purchase the material for your child’s apple witch, please let me know as soon as possible.  If you need help sewing the dress, please send the cut out material in by Wednesday, the 10th.   We will need some parent help with this activity.  If you can help with sewing dresses that are brought in on Wednesday, please let me know asap.  We will also need help putting our apple witches together.  We will be dressing them this Friday, the 13th,  from 10:00-11:30 (we might finish sooner).  Please let me know if you can help with this activity. 
Halloween Party!!
 It’s that time of year to start planning the Halloween party that will be on Tuesday, October 31st. We will start the party after the costume parade. W will start after the parade, I’m guessing around 10:00, and it will go until 11:30. I have one parent already signed up to help with the party, but we will need at least three more parents to help plan and run a food center, craft, and two Halloween type games. Please let me know if you’re interested in helping our class.

Apple Witch Help and Dress Pattern

Parents,
We will be dressing our apple witches on Friday, the 13th from 10:00-11:30   A letter will go home today explaining this process.  There are instructions on how to sew the dress, hat, and gloves.  This is a very easy process, so please do not stress.  
I need some volunteers to come in and help that Friday, the 13th, to dress our witches.  We will be dressing the witches at 10:00 and we will go until we finish.  Please let me know if you can come in and help.  Also, I am looking for people who would be willing to help sew any additional dresses that might be needed.  Please let me know if you would be willing to help out with the sewing.

October 2nd – 6th!!

  On my goodness!  We are now into October!! Where has the time gone?  We have a lot of things planned for this month.  The biggest two are dressing our apple witches and our class Halloween party and parade.  I will post more information later this week about these two activities, so keep your eyes peeled for the upcoming posts.
  This week for spelling, we will be learning the long -i and long -u patterns.  Long i: i, ie, igh, i_e, y;
Long u: u, u_e, ew  There is a list of words under the homework tab is you would like to review with your child at home. 
  In math we are moving on to subtraction this week.  We will be working on subtraction without decomposing numbers.

September 25th-29th!!

  The COOKIE DOUGH FUNDRAISER was a huge success.  Our class sold 90 tubs of cookie dough.  That is a ton of cookie dough.  Thank you so much for your support with this.  Overall, Quest Academy students earned $29,000 for our school.  All of this money will get put back into our school to support the students.  Once again, thank you so much!!!
  This weeks pattern is the long o sound focusing on words with -o_e ,-oa, -ow and -old.  I will post the spelling list  under the homework tab, so you can have it at home if you would like to review with your child. 
  This week for math we are still working on addition properties with re-grouping.  We will also starting solving addition problems using the algorithm.  We will test on addition at the end of the week.  
  This Friday, the 29th, is a dollar dress down day.  Please have your student bring a dollar if they dress down.

September 18th-22nd!

A huge THANK YOU to all those that helped out with our apple witches.  Thank you for sending in apples, peelers, and coming in to help.  I really appreciate it  and so do the students!!  THANK YOU!!!
COOKIE DOUGH MONEY is due on MONDAY, the 18th!!  Thank you for all of your helping selling cookie dough.  This money goes to support so many different things at our school.
Spelling this week will be working on the long a sound with the spelling patterns -ay and -ai.  I will post the spelling list  under the homework tab, so you can have it at home if you would like to review with your child.

September 11th-15th

On Friday I sent home a cookie dough fundraiser packet.  Please see the post that I put on the blog on Friday.  This fundraiser supports many different activities at school.  
This week we have a lot planned.  We are now in our third week of the new reading/spelling program.  All of the students in our class will be working with the same spelling pattern which is so nice!!!  This week, we will be testing on the spelling pattern:  final e and inflectional endings: drop final e.   I will post the spelling list  under the homework tab, so you can have it at home if you would like to review with your child. 
For math, we have taken our rounding test and we did amazing.  There are a few that I am going to invite to tutoring next week, so please look for that email.  We are now moving onto addition properties and addition without regrouping. 

Apple Witches:
I am still looking for parent volunteers to help us with this activity!!!  We are starting to collect the pieces of our Apple Witches for Halloween.  Every student needs to bring a medium-sized apple to school by Monday, September 11th.  We are carving our apples on Thursday, September 14th from 2:00-3:00 in our classroom.  I would love as many volunteers that can come and help us on this day.  Also, we will  need:
1/8 teaspoons (at least 10), and apple peelers (at least 8).
If you have any of these items but cannot attend, please send them with your child, and I will make sure that they get back to you.  If your student will be absent this day we will create a witch for them to use when we dress our witches.
