Homework for the Week of Jan. 25th!

We are still working on composite shapes this week in math.  I gave a math quiz on Friday and our class did not do to well on it, so I will be reteaching composite shapes.  Once again, even though we have moved onto area, students still need to be practicing their multiplication facts at home.  We are still working towards our multiplication madness party on February.
Field Trip – Please remember to look at the field trip post.  Permission slips and money need to be in by January, 29th.

Homework
Please remember to submit your homework online under the homework tab, or, print out the Sort and Reading Log (below) and send it in on Thursday.  I have many students who are not submitting their reading minutes or sorts.  Please make sure that these get handed in.

Math Homework Tonight!

Parents,
Today in math we started working on composite shapes and finding their areas.   We spent a lot of time breaking apart the shapes to solve for the area.  Some students really struggled with this today, so they will need some help. Our practice on composite shapes took longer than I thought, so please have you child only do the even problems on the homework tonight.   If you have any questions, feel free to email me.
Thanks,
Ms. Beckstead

Field Trip!!

We have our first field trip on Thursday, February 4th to the Children’s Theatre in SLC and then we will go to the State Capitol to have lunch and take a tour.  We are super excited to  go on this field trip!   Please read the permission slip attached in the post.  There are lots of little details that parents need to read.  Please sign and return the permission slip by Friday, January 29th for your child to attend the field trip. The permission slip also tells parents about volunteering to come with us!  We are also asking for a $6.00 donation from each child for the field trip.  This will cover the cost of the admission and a small portion of the bus.  Thanks so much for all your support.  Let me know if you have any questions.

No Math Homework for tonight!

Parents,
We did not get as far as I would have liked to today on our math.  Therefore, there will be no math homework assigned for tonight.  This would be a great time to practice any multiplication facts that your child is struggling on.  There is still reading homework for tonight.
Thanks,
Ms. Beckstead

Happy New Year!

Good Morning and Happy New Year!!!  I hope everyone had a nice, long, and relaxing Christmas Break!!!  Mine was fabulous!  Let’s start 2016 great!!
We are finishing up learning about the last few multiplication facts this week: we will learn the 6′s, 7′s and 8′s.  We will also be working on the Properties of Multiplication. Students will still be able to pass off multiplication facts up until February 14th (Multiplication Madness Party).  Next week, we will move on to area in math.

I thought we were going to be able to do the Words Their Way Spelling Inventory the last week of school before Christmas Break, but we were too busy and didn’t get around to it…oops!  Therefore, we will not do any WTW spelling sorts again this week.  I will be giving  the Spelling Inventory Monday of this week and we will be starting new sort groups next week.  I will let the students know the new groups they will be in starting next week.
We will have math homework and reading minutes every night this week!
