Important Information

take noteDear Parents,
Here are a few things that will change after Spring Break:
  • We will be required to take attendance during our morning meetings at 8:30.  If your child isn’t able to attend the morning meeting and do their online work, we will mark them absent.  If they miss the morning meeting, but are able to watch the recordings and complete the required work at a later time, please email us to let us know and we will go in and fix the attendance.
  • Teachers have been advised not to post our class meeting links and/or codes on our blog. Rather, we will post the links for students to access our class meetings in our Google Classroom. Your student should already have access, but if not, use Class Code: lc24xto (You only have to do this once. After that, when you click on “classroom”, you will see our class name: 1st Grade Smith/Teichert). Watch this tutorial for help: How to access Google classroom
  • We will start using Zoom instead of Google Meets for our daily video conferences.  On Monday, 4/6, log into Google Meet, just like normal.  Ms. Smith will then help the students transition to Zoom.  Zoom requires a download. You are welcome to go ahead and download Zoom to your students’ computer/tablet this weekend.
  • We will begin working with students in small groupsmall groups for Language Arts Instruction and to check their math proficiency. We will post the time on our blog that each group needs to login to Zoom.  Meetings will last about 15-20 minutes.  Thanks for all your help making sure your child is on at their correct time!

    Language Arts Groups:
    Dragonflies: Brighton, Gabe
Grasshoppers: Gabe, Kenzie M. Brenlie, Bria, Miles
    Bees: Emma, Marayah, Violet
    Ladybugs: Dexter, Noah, Kenzi L.
Butterflies: Landon, Jaxson, Wynter, Ryleigh, Leilani, Jacob
Praying Mantises: Treyson, Stevie, Ryker, Easton, Liam

Library & Coding and Keyboarding Classes

Some fun classes to look forward to after Spring Break:
book
Mrs. Anderson, our librarian, would like to meet with our first grade class Monday mornings at 8:30 for about 10-15 minutes to share some stories and see how everyone is doing. She already has some stories and information in the google classroom you can check out! To access her class, she has asked us to join her Google Classroom. Her Google Classroom code is: sfbroz4

codeMrs. Fischer will be teaching a coding and keyboarding class every Wednesday at 12:00 for about 30 minutes.  Her Google Classroom code is: ro3fnda

Please do what you can to ensure your student attends these online classes (and we will remind them on the schedule).
The link below shows how to do this. Please watch:
How to access Google classroom

You only have to enter the class code once.  After that, when you click on “classroom”, you will see the classes for 1st Grade Library (Mrs. Anderson) and Coding and Keyboarding (Mrs. Fischer).

Star Charts

Screen Shot 2020-03-25 at 7.20.22 PMstars
Along with all the materials we’ve sent home, your child’s “star chart” is included.  In class, students received a star when they could show us a 100% on an iReady lesson.  After filling a 10 frame up with stars, they earned a prize from our treasure chest.  Feel free to continue using this as a motivator to work hard on iReady Reading and Math lessons!  You could use stickers, special markings, or initials to fill in the squares.  We suggest offering a simple reward after filling up 10 spaces, like 10 minutes fun time with mom or dad, chance to play a game, a small treat, or even a great big bear hug!  In addition, if they hold up a completed 10 frame during one of our class meetings, we’ll give them a class cheer!
Maybe they earn bonus “stars” if they complete all their work for the day by a certain time, etc.  Feel free to use it in whatever way works best for your child to help with motivation.

Quest Families,

As school will remain in dismissal until May 1st (as of now), teachers have prepared additional materials that can be picked up this Friday.

Pick up times are listed below. Please notice there are three different options, each lasting 2 hours. Rather than parking cars and walking to designated tables, parents will acquire their student’s materials by driving to tables by way of assigned lanes, which are alphabetized by student last name (see video).

Pick up times:
Friday: 7:30am to 9:30am; 11:30am to 1:30pm; 3:30pm to 5:30pm

Click here to watch the video.

Also, if your student checked out a Quest library book before this school closure, please return the library book when you pick-up your students’ school work.

Free Audible Books

As all of us around the world confront this difficult new period, we recognize the importance—and the challenge—of staying relaxed and entertained, especially for kids at home who are missing the stimulation of the classroom. From the beginning, Audible has served as an antidote to loneliness and even isolation, as a way to hear words that inspire and transport and for many – words that teach and entertain in deeply intimate ways.

With all of us experiencing varying degrees of social distancing and school closures, we have created something that we hope makes our customers’ lives a little easier. At stories.audible.com, you will find hundreds of our titles available completely free. The collection has been handpicked by our editors and is a mix of stories to entertain, engage, and inform young people, ages 0–18.

These stories offer a screen-free option that we hope may help break up the day for families with students home from school.

There are selections for our listeners in English, Spanish, German, French, Japanese and Italian.

To access the free titles, just visit stories.audible.com from any web browser.

The experience is completely free – no log-ins, credit cards, or passwords required. Just click, stream and listen.
