09/05-09/08
Families,
I hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend! We had another busy week, we started into long division in math and will continue that next week. I will begin Math tutoring the week after this one and tutoring will be held from 3:15-3:45 Mondays and Wednesdays. Families can expect an email from me if their child would benefit. If your child expresses concern with math and I haven’t emailed you please let me know and I can add them in.
In ELA we will be discussing how we can reread to compare characters, settings, or events in a story, drawing on specific details in the text and our genre focus will be on realistic fiction. We have a set of new vocabulary and spelling words attached below, including what we will be further discussing.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.
Thank you,
Ms. Kierejewski
Welcome!
Hello soon to be 5th graders! I hope you are having an awesome summer! I am excited to meet you and learn together!
Please mark your calendars for Back to School Night on Monday, August 14th, from 6-8 pm. Presentations will be given every 30 minutes starting at 6:00 pm, with the final session beginning at 7:30 pm. Our classroom is in the south hallway, the last door on the left, Room 157.
The First Day of School is Wednesday, August 16th. The first three days are early out days with dismissal at 1:10 pm.
Here are a couple of things you can do now to prepare:
- Please subscribe to my blog by clicking on the icon to the right and inputting your email address.
- Grown-ups and students, please read through the Class Disclosure together and sign the form Class Disclosure Signatures
- Please complete this short Family Disclosure to help me get to know your student better.
- Please complete this blanket Food Permission Form for the entire school year.
- Instead of purchasing school supplies, please pay a donation of $30 here: Online Payments, marking “Other” and typing “Kierejewski Supplies.” You can also pay in the Q1 Office. Please do so on or before Back to School Night and I will take care of all the shopping, labeling, and organizing of class supplies. To see what your $30.00 will cover, please click on the class supply list under the Family Information tab above.
Additionally, students will need to bring the following items on the first day of school:
- Headphones or earbuds–labeled with the student’s name. Parents will be responsible to replace broken or damaged headphones/earbuds throughout the year. We use headphones multiple times every day, throughout the day in the classroom. Please try to find the highest-quality headphones possible.
- Water bottle–Student may bring a small water bottle that they can have with them throughout the day.
- Small bag if needed–Only small bags are allowed for personal items if needed. Please, no large backpacks. They are not necessary. We are a technology school so we don’t send papers home often and classroom storage space is limited.
Additional donations for field trips and class parties may be requested as their respective dates approach.
Students can prepare for 5th grade by reading for 20 minutes every day, and practicing their multiplication and division math facts. Most of all, I hope you can get outside and have some fun!
Please email me with any questions or concerns you may have. We’re going to have an incredible year!
See you soon!
Ms. Kierejewski

Classroom Policies:
Absences
All missed classwork will be placed on the student’s desk. It will be the student’s responsibility to meet with me to go over material and questions on the work. Classwork missed is to be completed as homework and turned in by the date specified. If you plan to pick up your student’s work at the end of the day, please notify the office by 9 a.m. to give me time to get the assignments put together before the end of the day. If you are going out of town for an extended period of time and would like school work in advance, please let me know the week before your child will be absent to gather all of the material.
Birthdays:
The administration has asked that students not bring in any food-type treats. Please do not feel “obligated” to have your student bring in anything for their birthday. Your child’s birthday will still be acknowledged. To avoid any hurt feelings, please mail birthday invitations to classmates’ homes. Each child’s birthday will be celebrated in class by the teacher! Students with summer birthdays will be celebrated within the first two weeks of school!
