If you haven’t done so yet, please sign the permission slip here so your student can participate. I will not need any volunteers this day.
Students are welcome to bring a small pillow, blanket, and stuffed animal to use during the movie. They may also bring their own treat (healthy or sweet) and closable drink from home, but they may not share these items with other students.
Remember, Dec 23rd – Jan 3rd is Winter Break and there will be no school. Please make sure your child is reading 20 minutes everyday over the break! See you back on Jan 6th!
Lastly, your students are absolutely amazing and wonderful! I’m so grateful to be their teacher. Thank you for all that you do! Happy Holidays!

Hello 5th grade families!
There will be NO tutoring this week.
English Language Arts (ELA)
Next week in ELA, we will explore the wonderful world of poems. By analyzing the plot, setting, and themes of these poems, students will deepen their understanding of poetic structure and literary elements. Additionally, we will focus on closed syllables to strengthen our skills.
Mathematics
In math, we are expanding our knowledge by adding and subtracting decimals. Students will explore the relationship between decimals and how to add and subtract them correctly.
Science
Our science exploration is focused on Earth’s intricate systems. We will delve into the geosphere (the solid Earth), the biosphere (the living world), the cryosphere (the frozen parts of the planet), the hydrosphere (the water cycle), and the atmosphere (the gaseous envelope surrounding the Earth). By understanding how these systems interact, students will gain a deeper appreciation for the complex and dynamic nature of our home planet.
Thanks!Ms. Kierejewski

Happy Fall!
Family-Teacher Conferences will be Monday and Tuesday this week. Both days are early out days. If you still want to try and sign up, please use this link to see if you can find a time that will work for you and your student to attend together. If you are unable to make your appointment, please update your reservation or let me know via email. I look forward to seeing you and your student and talking about their progress!
Also, there is No School this Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday for Fall Break.
Over Fall Break, your child can practice math at home using Reflex, Frax, and IXL. Please encourage them to practice everyday for just 15-20 minutes. A little consistency will go a long way!
Please also encourage your child to READ, READ, READ…20 minutes or more everyday…and tell you all about what they are reading, too!
Wishing you an incredible Fall Break!
Ms. Kierejewskl
10/07-10/11
Hello Everyone,
This week in math we will be learning about Powers of 10, and how to read, write, and evaluate expressions with exponents. This skill will prepare students for future algebra topics such as factoring and solving quadratic equations. As always, if your student could benefit from extra practice, you will receive an emailed invitation for after school tutoring.
In ELA, we are finishing our study of problem and solution text structure and will test on that skill on Friday. Please continue support of at-home reading for 20 minutes per day!
In science, we are learning all about Earth’s systems (the geosphere, biosphere, cryosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere) and how they interact to produce the environments we are familiar with.
If you haven’t done so yet, please sign up here for a time to meet with me for Family-Teacher Conferences next Monday, October 14th, and Tuesday, October 15th. Please choose a time that works for both you and your student to attend together. I can’t wait to discuss their progress with you!
Please note that Fall Break is also next week, October 16-18th, and there will be no school. I hope you enjoy that time together!
Warm Regards,
Ms. Kierejewski
Rise test training
Hello 5th grade families!
I forgot to let you know that we will be training on rise testing on 10/14 and 10/15. Thank you.

5th grade families
Picture retakes will be Tuesday 10/01 in the Q2 Gym. Please let me know if your student will be doing that.
If your student is needing tutoring you will be receiving an email from me shortly.
Please make sure to send your student prepared for those cooler temperatures with a jacket/coat.
Also, Family-Teacher Conferences will be held in two weeks on Monday, October 14th, and Tuesday, October 15th. Both days will be early outs. Please sign up here for a time that will work best for you and your student to attend together.
This week in math we will be learning all about place value in preparation for operations with decimals. Students will learn that for both whole numbers and decimals, a digit in one place not only has ten times the value it would have in the place to its right, but also has one-tenth the value it would have in the place its left. This means we will be using the multiplication and division skills we have been learning the past few weeks to expand our knowledge of numbers.
In ELA, we are practicing rereading to compare text structures, with a special focus on problem and solution, while we consider the question “What do good problem solvers do?” Please help your child remember to read for 20 minutes every day at home!
In science, we are finishing our study of weathering and erosion and will get to do some hands-on experimenting with this topic. We hope it will be a lot of fun!
Thank you,
Ms. Kierejewski
Skeleton Creek reading
Hello! We have started reading skelton creek and there are some videos that goes along with it! if your student would like to watch it again here it is!

Hello Everyone,
Our Cookie Dough and Jerky Fundraiser will continue through this Wednesday the 25th. Thank you for all of your support!
This week in math we will work to master using the standard algorithm for both long division and multi-digit multiplication. We build on these skills all year long and welcome at-home practice with IXL or a good old fashioned sheet of paper and two-three digit numbers for both operations. If tutoring for these skills will be helpful for your child, you will receive an email from me with more information.
In ELA, we are investigating the question “What are the positive and negative effects of new technology?” while learning more about an author’s claims and discerning their purpose in writing. We will test these skills on Friday. At home, please encourage your child to read for 20 minutes every night and ask them about their book. It all adds up!
In science, we are learning about weathering and erosion and evidence of those processes in Earth’s features all around us. They may even point out some of that evidence to you!

Families,
I hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend! Last week we started into volume in math and will continue that this week. I will begin Math tutoring the week of the 23rd and tutoring will be held from 3:15-3:45 Mondays and Wednesdays. Families can expect an email from me if their child would benefit. If your child expresses concern with math and I haven’t emailed you please let me know and I can add them in.
In ELA we will be discussing how we can ask and answer questions to determine text structures such as cause and effect, problem and solution, and compare and contrast. We have a set of new vocabulary and spelling words attached below, including what we will be further discussing.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.
Thank you,
Ms. kierejewski
