I would like to offer a way to have your child reading at home with materials at their reading level. If your child is reading on RAZ-kids please continue to do that in addition to the weekly book that will come home each Tuesday. This will give you an opportunity to sit next to your child and enjoy reading together. Your child should be able to read these books successfully by the end of the week. As you have them read to you each night talk about the story and use this as an opportunity to have them show you the reading skills that we are working on in the classroom each day (letter sounds, blending sounds to make words and recognizing sight words).
This should be a positive experience between you and your child, where you can show them how excited you are about the progress they are making this year in Kindergarten.
