End of Year Field Trip!!

Hello Families,

We would love to have a special 5th Grade End of Year Field Trip to the Ogden Junction. So far, we have raised $70 of our $520 class goal. Thank you for your generosity if you have already made a donation! Our overall grade level goal is $2,120 total, so we still need your help to make this happen! We are asking for a minimum contribution of $20 per student. Donations can be made in the office or with the following link:  https://secureinstantpayments.com/sip/cart/event.php?EID=1468. We are trying to raise the money for this incredible opportunity by next Friday, May 2nd. We have a tentative date scheduled for Tuesday, May 27th, the day after Memorial Day, during the last week of school. If we are unable to meet our fundraising goal, please rest assured that any donations will be used towards another engaging opportunity for our 5th graders!

Thank you,

Mr. Nathan

End of Year!!

Hello,

It’s hard to believe, but we’re on the final countdown! Less than 30 days of school left, and these awesome students will be 6th graders. We will review everything we have learned so far this year for the next few weeks! If students could use extra practice with a concept or do not complete their review work during class, it will come home with them as homework. This will be in paper form, but there are also accompanying IXL lessons that are assigned and can be done if your student prefers digital work. Please have your student return this work as soon as possible (within 1-2 school days).

Our Acadience Reading (DIBELS) test will be held on Monday, April 28th. We will also begin i-Ready Diagnostic testing for Reading and Math on Monday. Our RISE testing schedule will be as follows, with an 8:45-10 am session and a 1:15-2:25 pm session each day:

  • Wednesday, May 7th – Science
  • Thursday, May 8th – Reading
  • Friday, May 9th – Make-up/Catch-up Testing
  • Monday, May 12th – Writing
  • Tuesday, May 13th – Math
  • Wednesday, May 14th through Friday, May 16th – Make-up/Catch-up Testing

Again, please make every effort to ensure your students have a good breakfast, are well-rested, and are at school for both review and testing! Please check with your student to make sure they have a functioning, reliable set of headphones in class; these need to be wired headphones.

Thank you for your support!

Feb. 17th – 22nd

Remember there will be no school on Monday, February 17th, for President’s Day. We have an exciting announcement with a permission form!

We look forward to an awesome field trip to the Natural History Museum of Utah on Wednesday, March 5th. Please review all of the information and sign the permission slip here for your child as soon as possible. We are also asking for parent volunteers to help chaperone this field trip (as indicated on the permission slip). Space is limited, so we will draw names from a lottery and notify you if you are selected. We ask that you complete the form by this coming Wednesday, February 19th. Please note, that we are asking for a donation of $5 per student and $10 per chaperone (if selected in the lottery) for this field trip.

When we return to school this week, we will be working on adding and subtracting decimals and fractions with unlike denominators in story problems. Finding a common denominator and carrying out these equations can be tricky and I’m proud of the hard work our class has done and will keep doing together! In ELA, we will consider the question, “How can scientific knowledge change over time?” as we work on identifying the main idea and key details in a text. For science, we will begin learning about the cycling of matter, focusing on producers and consumers within food chains. It will be a great week of learning!

At home, please remember those magical 20 minutes of reading every day at home to continue to build their brain!

Sincerely,

Mr. Nathan
